The MSDN CD offers very good information and tutorials on DirectX (using 
straight C so you'll be happy). I haven't checked, but I suppose the same 
contents should be available on the MSDN site. (www.msdn.com)

I like C++, but I'm willing to trade it for C if that makes hair grow in my 
chest!
