I would say alot of the popular windows games are probably programmed with Visual C++. You can't go wrong going in either direction Dos/Win. They both have there pro's and con's and games run well in both. Hit the game programming sites and see what the hardcore programmers use. I would say you'll probably find them using both compilers for Dos and Windows.
