You can delete any linux partition using dos fdisk, but it takes a lot of work sometimes. The problem is that, after fdisk thinks it's gone, it abruptly notices that it's there again (assuming you had linux on the extended partition). The only solution is to create a dos partition the size of the extended partition within it, and then delete that.
