If you plan on programming for Windows, then I think C++ might be a good route to take. If you will be programming for UNIX, then C might be a better choice. You can, of course use C and C++ on both Windows and UNIX, but each has its own popular language. If you decide to go with C, then I would definitely recommend _The C Programming Language_ (2nd Edition) by Brian W. Kernighan and Dennis M. Ritchie (http://cm.bell-labs.com/cm/cs/cbook/index.html). I haven't read many C++ books, so I can't really recommend any (I have read TYC++ though, and you're right. It sucks :) Hope this helps you out some. Later... "T.
