Mike, I am taking the same type of course at Eastern Michigan right now. The instructor is great and the text is pretty good. Some of the course notes at located at http://compsci.acad.emich.edu/faculty-staff/ikeji/338/notes.doc The text that we are using for this course is "Computer System Architecture Third Edition" by M.Morris Mano. The ISBN is 0-13-175563-3. It is a pretty good book except for some minor things. The explanation of a k-map, for example, was a bit lacking in places, but between the book and the course notes, it all makes pretty good sense. Another source that we use is a digital circuit design and simulation software called Logic Works. It allows you to draw out gates, flip-flops, MUX and other devices and run simulations on them. The software is OK but it costs around $85 and comes on one CD for both PC and MAC. I think that there is a freeware program on the net somewhere called Design Works, but I have not tried it at this time. If you have questions on something, email me and maybe between the two of us, we can figure it out. GPG G.P.Gillis - Programmer / Technician gpgillis@xxxx.xxx Teach Your Children Well ...
