What you are looking for is probably a GNU/Linux Distro. There are quite a few GNU/Linux distributions that run on top of Windows. Linux is an open-source UNIX like operating system and can be downloaded for free. It is designed to be a stand alone operating system but can run on a windows partition without rebooting. It supports networking. A study was run (not sure how accurate, but anyway) that said a majority of the internet servers in Germany used Linux as the operating system. It is stable. I hope this is what you were looking for, but if not it should solve your problem anyway. Good Luck! What you will need will be a UMSDOS Distro here is the howto about UMSDOS and I suggest you read it before going to any other sites listed here. http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/UMSDOS-HOWTO.html Here are a couple distros that support UMSDOS http://www.linuxone.net http://www.dragonlinux.org http://www.slackware.com A list of linux distributions can be found at http://www.linuxlinks.com/Distributions/ http://www.linux.org > > Date: Tue, 29 Aug 2000 14:36:18 -0500 > From: mouse@xxxx.xxx > Subject: Desperately needed/required. > > > > > > > > > > > > > There was two emulators that I had downloaded a very > long > time ago that would emulate a UNIX like system under > the > Microsoft Windows envirorment without rebooting the > PC. > > I'm almost possitive that I downloaded the one that > was > or actually, used to be available on www.cygwin.com. > Now > it is no longer available, so it seems it's not. > There > is a compiler available, but that is not what I > need. > > I already have probably more compilers than a > standard > programmer, developer and possibly even a company. > (G) > I do however need to aquire the emulators or > whatever > they were, or were called.
