I haven't tried it in a while, but I think cin/cout give segmentation faults when you put the program into nobreak mode using the curses library. If you're satisified with using cin/cout and still having to use carriage returns, then that's fine, but I really don't know of any C++ library that gives you the same functionality as curses.
