MUD Coding <2>

Thanks everyone for your responces. I'll add some more
info. First I've had tons of experiences with MUDs,
I've immed several, built with OLC on several, and
even gotten access to the "shell" even though I had no
idea how to use it. I'm just trying to get the basics
to even see if this is possible. What are the steps
needed to run a MUD in the first place. I understand
that you download the code, although I can't figure
out how to compile it on Windows. Will it work
downloading it, "un-tarring" it on Windows, then
compiling it on my little Borland Turbo C++ 4.5? Or do
I need to install another operating system on my
computer or download something else (if so, what) to
make it work.

If there is a way to download it, untar it, and
compile it under Windows, is it possible to just run
it and browse around in Windows, and add code etc.
without having anyone else networked in?

Also, how does MUD hosting work? Once you find a
company, and buy the space, is it a simple process of
FTPing the files up there (i.e. you can compile, fix,
and update right away?) or do you link into and run
things through their server or what? I'm assuming it
will be running on Unix there, so if they host it can
I test it online without having to deal with Windows
problems?

I definitly have the experience needed to understand
MUDs overall, just the actual setting up and compiling
I need a little clarification. Could anyone help me
understand how this would work on Windows or this
Turbo C++?

Thanks a lot!
