Losing time

# 39046

Haven't been on NAO much lately, as I've been caught up with the grind of applying for college (in my [relative] wizened old age at that), general life, blah blah etc. So hopefully sticking up a quick post here will get NAO back nearer the front of my mind, and I'll have some fun stuff to say in the near future.

In the meantime, I've been playing with Plan 9 (“from User Space”, not the real one), and getting the urge to switch *NIXEN yet again. And in checking out NetBSD.org to see what's new, what did mine eyes spy but an old joke come true.

Truly, I am impressed and disturbed. I have to get this.

It's the small victories...

Argh. Local time is quickly approaching 04:00. Getting crosseyed. But, observe the following:

.Ad { display: none; }

Now the Reg rocks even harder. That was the easiest Ad Block Effort™ ever. I'd like to thank View > Source, laziness, and the letters C, S, and S.

So I joined this site, hoping for the best…but not really knowing anybody on it, and having lurked for a short time, it was still something of an unknown quantity. I posted a little blurb in the Site Related forum, seeking answers, and in reply Salvial_Ten gave some useful links, one of which was to the Using God as a Counter-Argument topic. I braced myself, followed it, and WONDER OF WONDERS, the quality of the discussion was high! So many good posts, from numerous viewpoints! I rubbed my eyes; am I really on the Web? There are flesh-and-blood people on this site, writing intelligently, thinking lucidly. How on Earth did I accrue the good fortune to come to this place?

When in said topic thread ecthelion33 made the distinction between the means and aims of science and theology (long a pet peeve of mine), I thought I was in heaven (no pun intended). And quoting Gregory of Nyssa?! I almost had a heart attack. I'm starting to understand the somewhat clannish tendencies of NAO; a good community on the Internet is an extremely rare and valuable thing.

I guess then my inaugural journal post is officially a "thank you" to the folks on this site who already have lessened my cause for cynicism. I didn't think it was possible. I stand corrected.
