X-Box or Playstation 2

Ah yes, a question for the ages. To first answer this question you have to look at the facts. I can't stand (and I don't think I am alone in this one) when people bash systems befor they have ever purchased or played it for themselves. It all comes down to bashing the system you don't have.
The playstation 2 is a nice system at first. Over time you tend to lose intrest in it due to lack of good games. Playstation has been so set on making as many games to try and shut down the other systems that they seem not to care about the content. I mean come on, Who makes a game about making fireworks? Don't get me wrong it has been a good system and has a number of good games but they do tend to get old. The PS2 promised ground breaking graphics. Ummm? They must of forgot to put them in. Despite the lack of games the playstation 2 is a soaring success for the gaming empire of sony and has everyone on the tip of there seats for, dare I say, Playstation 3.
The X-box is also an out of the box success. The games are great and based for the more mature gamers in most cases. The x-box does have better graphics and faster loading compartments. Most people are appealed to the fact that you do not need a memory card and the built in hard drive. Despite all the good games and graphics the system is not perfect. The size of the system is un-called for. That is basicly the only flaw in the system. The sole reason X-box blows playstation 2 out of the water is X-box live. Some may say it was the dagger to the heart of sony. Playstation did try to rebound with a 56k online play but it has failed horribly. The Xbox is truely better than playstation over all if you ask me. I have all 3 systems and I beleive the order goes: x-Box, PS2, and then gamecube.

*cough*

What about Grandia 2, Max Payne, Grand Theft Auto III, MDK2, Metal Gear Solid?? Let's not forget about the Final Fantasy Series as well... and you gotta love Need for Speed. Not to mention every game that was on the PS One...

Playstation 2 has as many good games as X Box.

Playstation has been so set on making as many games to try and shut down the other systems that they seem not to care about the content.

Sony doesn't make the games.

But I don't own a Playstation or an X Box. I got a GameCube for Zelda, Mario, Rogue Leader, Metroid, Animal Crossing, etc. Plus it was the cheapest. Sure, X Box has a hard drive and it can play DVDs, but... do I care?

I have been very tempted to buy a PS2 recently. The sole reason for this is because mostly every new game that now comes out is for PS2. Did they suddenly forget about PC users? I mean; i have friends that are playing GTA: Vice City now, and i have to wait 6 months or maybe forever just to beable to play it. Games like GTA: Vice City, Midnight Club 2, Pro Race Driver, Whiteout, and every other game that i've always drooled about. Alas they make me search the bottom of the tv screen for the PC symbol only to get let down every time. PS2 is a "Pretty good" system but i just find it to be a piss off for Sole PC users.

I didn't touch X-Box, maybe thats a good idea. Since X-Box is Microsoft.. eheh. The best thing about the X-Box is every game is Original basically. I know there are a few games that would be nice on the PC but you gotta respect that they've used the balls put into the X-Box to run it so you'd need a damn good system to run it.

In conclusion.. I give the X-Box 4/5 for originality, and use of games that don't piss me off. The PS2 gets 3/5 only because it does have ALOT of games. But all of these games piss me off, and make me jealous. If they upped the graphics a little in there system instead of just giving it a shiny new look i may have bought it, but oh well.

PC for life.

I'm tempted to buy Gamecube, xbox, playstation 2 and all the games, but I know that if I did, a better system will be made with better games that I can no longer play. If it weren't for this simple line of reasoning, I would have one now, because the games all look great.

A cpu is really the only kind of "system" that can play great games and can still handle the more advanced games with a few minor tweaks and upgrades (video card etc.). It is much less costly than buying a whole system. I can perfectly understand everyone's position for those of you that love those x-box playstation2 gamecube type systems. Maybe I will someday when I'm not dirt broke.

personal opinion twords the x. it is the game consel of these three next years. The games, memory and live total any and all other features in the other game compartments. I have noticed that computer (ibm+mac) fanasy role games do tend to out play and perform better than the x or p2. reason is memory, however with the x you are running a computer with about the same force as macintoshes i mac, it runs at 700 mgz. where the x runs at 733. look out if play two comes out with three. If they become smart in there marketing, rather than in it for the money, and decided to out built the x, which will be hard (consumer wise), look out. I expect these companyies are in it for the money with the new, here is the basic now if you want the add on nessasaries it will cost you more routine. if they do well, they will sell a multipurpose console with built in memory,a fast hard drive and multipurpose capabilities, relying on todays technilogical advances anlong with tommorows (forget next years its already today,) built solely for the purpose of entertainment, you bet your bottom dollar it will sell- Less is better when it comes to quantity (now lets take the rock and go for the bomb in advanced computer science.> computer should never have the entertainment side. but if you cross over in the game section with multipurpose use, you will see a game industry going wild. We think maddens 2003 or final fantasy x is the ticket. just wait until gamers hit the straight line in advanced tecknologies. 3d, virtual performance- it scares me.it may sound like I am speaking on things allready developed. I am. but still we are young. I would like to see somehting from steve jobs over in mac. my guess is he would perform well. ponder this for you musician, gamer, writers out there- you just turned on your new G-mac. it runs by satilite- there is nothing it cannot run,do,perform, for it is the machine!! tidings. brnt

brnt_allyn, ya just cant do that.

Sadly I'm going to have to admitt that I agree with Underfire. Now I'm not going to just make fun of his essay because he is my neighbor or because he basically stole it from me. We were discussing which was better and he was dead set on PS2 (Which is not a bad console at all I loved it and still do) and he was anti-xbox while I argued that both were equal but Xbox would gain the upperhand when Xbox Live debuted November 15th.
Now on to my real take on this. Xbox has the upperhand as I earlier stated but hopefully PS2 will get provider that links all the games together such as XBox did. Your friends list works on everything so even if your not playing the same game you can see if your friends are playing Ghost Recon while your playing Unreal Tournament. PS2 will eventually get in the swing of things or....fail to compete and become the next SEGA. I won't discuss GameCube until they get a few games that aren't rated E for everyone.

The GTA series.

Yeah, yeah, besides the GTA series, Xbox is far better in everything. More future potential, better current games, and a badass online network that actually works all the time. Go play GTA at a friend's house, but you will want to own the Xbox. Halo is the best console game ever made, in my humble opinion, and Halo 2 is good reason to get the Xbox.

PS2 really has no good future releases... it has pretty much run its course. However, neither of these consoles is slated for replacement until 2005, so I wouldn't worry about them becoming obsolete (and even then, the new ones will be able to play your old games, so don't worry about it)

They have announced that GTA3:VC (and hopefully GTA3) is going to (finally) be ported over to Xbox. This shouldn't be too difficult now that the PC version has been released. I hope they tweak it to take full advantage of the superior texturing capabilites and memory bandwidth.

Also, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, as mentioned in an earlier post, is one of the best RPGs I've ever seen. I normally don't like RPGs on consoles, and think they do better on PC/Mac. But this one rocks!

The Xbox will continue to look better, as it is a superior platform technically. It just needs the games. And it's getting those.
