The same has happened in Memphis, except it's with the punk-lite culture. Artists, and I use that term grudgingly, like Avril Lavigne, Good Charlotte, and the many Newfound Glory rip-offs have made it difficult to seem like an individual. My friend and guitarist William has introduced me to some great punk and dark-punk music, à la AFI, Propagandhi, etc., but because it's suddenly "cool" to listen to punk-pop, if you make a reference to punk music of any form, you're bound to get dozens of "Oh I luv Avril! Shes sooooo hardcor!!!!!!1" responses. As for the satanic Goth scum whatnot, I remember seeing something about a flux of anti-satanism in England where there was a big scare about dæmonolatry and satanism, and I'm curious; has there been any retaliation, institutionalized or otherwise, against Goths in England? (In either Minnesota or Wisconsin, can't remember which, Vampyrism is now illegal. Crazy world, nichts wahr?)
