Caffeine!

93% | 3

This is probably the most random post you'll have to put up with from me, but I felt it deserves to be put out here. I love caffeine, and I can't help it. Coffee, hot tea, iced tea, Red Bull, Bawls, and everything. I've decided that caffeine is assuredly an addictive substance, but I love it all the same. The world we live in now has such an open forum for ideas that anything can be made; caffeinated mints, caffeinated gum, extra-caffeinated coffee beans, even caffeinated soap. Don't believe me? Check it all out at www.thinkgeek.com. Any opinions here on that wonderful, somewhat dangerous, substance?

Re: Caffeine!

I'm 21 and living a virtually caffeine free life. Not that I don't see the advantages of that wonderful substance, but here's my plan: Postpone the switch to caffeine as long as possible.

So when in ten years all my friends need five cups of coffee in the morning only to get started, I'm going to kick everyone's ass after two cups only. That's my masterplan.

Live without caffeine

Add me to this. In my life I probably drunk about two cups of coffee because I just don't like the taste (maybe it would do it with 1/4 coffee and 3/4 milk :D)and didn't even realize they woke me up or something but when I was working in my holidays I thought coke could do. I felt more awake after drinking a coke but who drinks coke in the morning? Bah... And Red Bull and all the other energizing drinks? I can't smell them...

Maybe I'll join the masterplan in some years :)

who drinks coke in the morning?

*ahem*

I used to drink unhealthy amounts of coke and iced tea. I'm beginning to cut back now.

Drinking two cans of coke within 10 minutes will give you a delightful little sugar buzz. :) A guilty pleasure I still indulge myself with every once in awhile.

Good job. I aim to be live an (almost)caffeine/alcohol/tabacco free existence for the rest of my life. I'm going pretty well so far I think, although given that I'm only 16, I've still got a long way to go.

I simply don't like the taste of coffee or alcohol, and the thought of smoking grosses me out.

For the most part, I've given up coffee, and I'd just as soon not touch alcohol. The concept of a smoking industry really irks me (as do tanning beds) because it's a business based on people paying for cancer. Caffeine, however, is generally good for you because it keeps you awake and functioning. Besides, sleep gives you cancer. Everybody knows that.

I can't think of a substance I enjoy more than caffiene, with the exception of sugar. And I often comsume the two together.

Hm, caffeine most definitely good. Although I recall there've been 3 or 4 occasions when I've almost died from overdosing on it. Usually when deadlines are approaching or when I didn't get quite the sleep I wish. It comes on something like I would imagine a heart attack would be and is extremely painful. One time I was ABSOLUTELY sure I was going to die, but after a few minutes the pain subsided. Stupidly, this has not stopped me ingesting caffeine but I do tend to drink less now.
One thing I find stupid is these "ProPlus" tablets they sell over here, and I'm sure there's equivalent products where you are. Containing the same amount of caffeine as EIGHT cups of strong coffee, they were THE drug of choice at university. I never took them as, as far as I'm concerned, I'd rather DRINK the coffee.
Oh, and one last thing. A notice written in a bar menu last night:
"Sorry, we do not sell decaffeinated coffee. No caffeine, no point".
Well, it made me chuckle anyway.

This is why I've started to cut back so much on caffeine. A few nights ago (this night, to be precise), I gave up caffeine. I mixed an Amp, a Monster energy, and a Sobe Adrenaline Rush and completely freaked out. It wasn't fun. So now, I get caffeine from hot tea, and I might drink an occasional coke during the school year. The only exception to the no-caffeine drinks rule is a bottle of Bawls on nights when I'm in serious trouble for schoolwork.

I'm feeling the lack. I feel kinda sick, I've got a mean headache, and I'm a bit slow in responding to visual and physical stimui (ie, I just jammed my toe into a dictionary, and it took a few seconds to realize it)

Hm, yes, let my life be a lesson to you all :P I didn't pass anyway, so I'm not sure it was worth it. Um, whilst I admire your ability to give up on caffeine (I'm 18 months without a cigarette and counting), I would point out that in fact the most dangerous chemicals in tea are the tannins and not the caffeine. I'll look something up on them later. Unless you drink herbal teas etc, in which case, disregard my previous comments.
Withdrawals from anything are going to be difficult. Someone close to me has recently given up Prozac (anti-depressant) as prescribed by her doctor, because the side-effects were so bad. The withdrawal symptoms were actually WORSE than the problem she was taken them for in the first place.
If it's ANY kind of help at all, after a few weeks she calmed down and now is better than she was before starting them.
Stick to it mate, it's going to be worth it in the end. Plus, think how much you're saving now. That Coke's damned expensive stuff.
