I've read the entire Hitch Hikers Guide series as well as Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective agency. When his latest (unfinished) book was released, I bought that too. What he had finished was really good. I'm part way through the other Dirk Gently book "The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul".
The HHGttG movie was mediocre. It didn't do the novels justice.
I'm sure a lot of other people here have read HHGttG.
How strange, im reading the same book myself at the moment, i especially like the part about the seven memory registers but im only a little way through... am i right in thinking that the long dark tea time of the soul is part 2 too the holistic detective agencys. I never thought the film did the book justice neither, but everyone builds there own picture of the story while thier reading it i suppose, have you read So long and thanks for all the fish? thats next on my list, Ive always liked the thought of creating a film based on one of hes books myself.

on one hand: yes, it is.
but on the other: no, because it's IMHO much better than the book before :)
it's still one of the books i choose if i want to have my stomach aching of laughing :D (beside 'Guards! Guards!', 'Mort' and 'Alles Sense' (dont know the english title) of T.P.)
have you read So long and thanks for all the fish?
at least, i DO have.
and the after-coming book, i've got (and read, of course) too ;)
i'm the proud owner of the first german release, hardcover edition ;)

'Alles Sense'
The Discworld story where Death is forced to retire and nobody is doing his job anymore?
I've got MrCrash's copy of this book lying around somewhere... guess I should start reading it sometime before he wants the book back. :-) Well let's see if I can find the time!
Did you perchance read the other Discworld stories, with the tourist (Zweiblum) and the creative magus? They're pretty entertaining, too :-)

Did you perchance read the other Discworld stories, with the tourist (Zweiblum) and the creative magus?
of course!
i'm being proud to tell you: _I_ own them ALL! ;)
- any story written by/with/together with Terry Pratchett i DO own
including the german translation of 'Nanny Ogg's Cookbook', 'Streets of Ankh-Morpork' and the 'Discworld Guide' ;)

It's almost a crime to ask! Every self respecting geek should have read all five parts of the Hitchhiker 'trilogy'.
I picked up The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul some years ago. It's almost funnier than any Hitchhiker novel he wrote. Just check out the first 8 sample pages to get yourself hooked.
I'd like to get my hands on Last chance to see, documentary about endangered animals he did for the BBC before he died.
I found Starship Titanic pretty mediocre, but it was probably intended for a younger audience. He lost a lot of his wit in his last years. Especially the last Hitchhiker movie was so dark and almost... sad. All that adds to the tragedy of his early death.
Douglas, in case they have Internet connection in heaven and you're reading this, we all always you!
