This movie is beautiful.

So whats this film all about?
A girl who sees the world and people around her in a very special way. It sounds pretty boring and I would probably never have seen the film if Ettena hadn't dragged me to it.
Usually I'm the type of movie goer that enjoys space marines kicking the asses of green, slobbering aliens. Amelie didn't have space marines, or aliens, but it was easily the best movie I've seen this year. I even consider getting it on DVD.

If you like Amélie, you might also want to check out "A la folie... pas du tout" ("He Loves Me... He Loves Me Not"). Audrey Tautou ('Amélie' herself) plays young art student Angélique, who is in love with some doctor who hardly knows her. Everything he does she sees as a sign of his love for her, and eventually she manages to ruin his whole life. The film is an endless series of misunderstandings for all the involved, and the ending is just loveable. Some critic probably described it best when he called it "the dark side of Amélie".

Does "A la folie..." manage to avoid drifting away into ickiness as Amélie did?
Depends on how you define "icky". :-) It's not a love story as such tho.

If you like, you can split the movie into different parts, or chapters. In the first part, which shows Angéliques perspective, Angélique is a sweet and nice student having numerous dates with her lover, only that he never shows up. One time she waits for him at the airport, happy/unsure, then going home really sad as the plane departs and there's no trace of him. After a while you get to assume he's a real asshole.
The second part (or chapter) is from his perspective and changes everything: the scarf he gave her for a 'present' is his wife's and she just lost it (Angélique finds it strolling around the house and assumes it's a present), and he never wanted to fly away with her (she found a travel agency's catalogue in her mailbox and took it as a sign of his).
Meanwhile she's fighting for him, and has some success in tearing him and his wife apart and ruining his business. David, her friend (who is in love with her) hears her stories and believes her version of the story, so he heads for Loic (the man)'s office and starts a fight.
Still with me? :-)
Anyway. In the end Loic (the man) meets Angélique, recognizes that she's destroyed his life and yells at her that he's never ever loved her and she should leave him the fsck alone. After an attempt to kill him she is institutionalized, and (almost) everybody can start getting back their lives. The story isn't quite finished tho.

Look at me ramble. :-) In short, if you like twisted minds and plots and coincidences, chances are good you'll like this movie.

I didn't read one word of the spoiler part, forgive me!
You amaze me. Sticking a note "Don't read!!!!!" is usually the safest way to get anybody's interest. :-)
No-spoiler version: it's kinda like a black black love story. Not cheesy or anything; love is just the basis for the madness to thrive on. And it has a very promising ending.
