As i sit here in my uncomfortable chair in my cold ass AN/TSC 85 system in the middle of Iraq..I'm horrified..not of the idea that the Iraqi's know where My van is and could easily toss a mortar my way..no but by what is happening back state side.. I thought Jesse Ventura being a governer was kind of funny and all..but that was like a one itme event..it was just damn funny thats all..then I see this
Arnold Might Run for Governer of Cali
He was very cool when he was here in Bagdahd a few weeks ago, and I give the guy mad props for all the children's work he does..I think he is a good guy. T3 was kind of a bust but hey i got to see it before anybody else did thanks to Arnold and him being nice enough to bring it over here for us....Point is..This guy is A. A bad actor, B. A generaly good hearted man who seems to use his good fortune to help others. And of course C. In 1990, George Bush named Arnold as chairman of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.
That is a pretty big honor for a guy who started as a poor guy in Austria who had what seems to be a pretty demented father figure. But Where are his qualifications to be governer of a state? The scary part is that people might actually vote for him and when you think about as a general consensus it seems that anybody who would Actually vote for him would only vote on his popularity...without actually finding out about him. I can't seem to find any information on any college education he might have had or not had .. But what the hell is the world coming to...seriously now.. I mean come on.

I will totally Arnie give the benefit of doubt in this. There've been so many cases of incompetent, uneducated politicians driving the economy / military / health care / whatever against the wall with childish, uninformed decisions, just because XY "seemed like a nifty thing to do".
So he is a successful actor, so what. I see nothing bad in his popularity buying him a couple of votes, compared to the other politicians getting shoved into office by their daddies. Of course said politicians are now all crying foul because a foreign body is invading their turf.

He made a degree for Business and Economics at the University of Wisconsin. He also has a pretty long history for doing charitable work.

I think that's more than most other candidates have to offer. :-) At least, with what he's done already, chances are not too bad that he'll actually keep some of his campaign promises. The only downside is that he's a Republican, but hey, nobody is perfect. ;-)

He can be elected.
I find it amusing that the people of a democracy have created an elite for themselves and do not consider themselves part of the elite that can be in politics. That is why modern democracies over the world are in such a poor state - simply put the people are not engaged.
The very fact you meantioned college education means you start cutting out minorities, the impoverished etc... I don't see how constantly re-electing middle classes who have no real invested interest in the poorest majority of the citizens is going to really benefit them. Electing someone who has had a less than priveledged background makes more sense.

I'm not really sure what country your from, but if you belive the United States to be a democracy you need to wake up and smell whats cookin. If the United States were an actual true democracy there would be a number of things different. Face it we are some sort of twisted republic and no amount of whining will change that.

So without an education, one is expected to be allowed to run a state? What the hell is he going to do jump up on a rock and grunt and wave his club at anyone who comes near? As for the minorities plenty of minorities have voices through plenty of different outlets...it's not that they arn't heard it's that nobody really cares what the poor have to say. If they can't manage their lives then they have issues. Hell I make less then $20000 a year but I still live it up, have a nice place and am going to collage... If I can manage it I don't see why Mr Miniority can't. It's time people stopped hiding behind that crap "Whine Whine I'm Poor Whine Whine I'm a Minority" Do somthing about it and stop frigging whining.

Sigh. I am not blind to the motions of the poltical system - read my post again.

Educated people are just as able to be poor leaders. Being educated does not necessarially make you a good representitive. That's exactly the kind of elitist thinking I'm talking about.
It's also the idea that somehow without an education you must be a complete idiot - whilst it's perfectly possible to be well educated and remain stupid. There is more to being able than merely being knowledged.
Democracy should allow anyone to run a state that the people want - otherwise you might as well just have a meritocracy. Whether or not you think that it's a good thing is besides the point - your attitude to Arnold based on him being an actor shows a certain type of thinking in democracy that basically has a disgust fot the demos.

Yes, and that should be good enough for them... they should be grateful.
it's not that they arn't heard it's that nobody really cares what the poor have to say.
And why should they? They are after all not the concern of a democracy elected to represent them.

Are you white? I'm guessing so. It may have escaped your notice but discrimination is alive and well in the US.

They're not. I'm merely pointing out the fact that these people are actively excluded despite the rhetoric. It's all very well saying 'pull yourself up out of the gutter' but you know what - things just aren't that striaghtforward.
If you do not believe the people have any worth you cannot be democratic.

Very Very Well said, I stand corrected when It comes to the education side of my haphazard argument. Again..Very well said.

Nope , I'm hispanic though I do see what you are getting at with that.
Personally I think as a human being Arnold is a good person..the Idea of someone in any kind of political office that is a good, upstanding , un corrupted individual scares the hell out of me.
I think my major issue with the idea of Arnold running (if he actually does) is that I don't think that his votes will have anything to do with his ability in the political arena but more to do with the fact that he is one of God's gifts to children. Maybe not as an Android blowing people away but the man would do anything to help children, especially those who are under privilidged. I worry about the idea of him taking office and showing something that he has managed to hide..a "true self" I just don't want to loose someone that has so wonderfull to society to the wickedness that is polotics.

They exist - they just don't seem to get far in politics.

Everyone has skeletons in the closet - it's quite possible Arnold may not run as he may not want to drag his family through that (the press, stories true or not, will be nasty from the opposition) - and he would obviously have less time for them too.
Hey folks
I recently moved to California so I have an outsider's view still I guess. Californians are just straight pissed-off about how expensive it is to live here... For example the car registration fees tripled this year, so the average $20,000 car will cost $800-$900 a year just to be registered in California, not to mention smog checks every other year, license plates... all so we can sit in traffic for a quarter of our lives.
Ultimately I think anybody -- anybody -- could have run against Gray Davis, and with enough name recognition like Arnold could have won. I don't think the crappy economy has much to do with Davis, but like every other politician he's ultimately responsible in the public's eye.
Well Arnold as we all know did win... I agree with Fat Albert I dont live in Cali... I live in Tx. But Ive studied and been to Cali and I know how bad it actually was... Even though they could have found a better gov. they needed someone ASAP to replace the louse that was in office at the time... So overall I believe that Arnold wasnt the worst choice *Gary Colemen* but was also not the best.
