Forum Meeting

Well just came across my mind, making a forum meeting.

Ok it's difficult because the users are spread all over the world, but from europe it wouldn't be that much of a problem.

Ok I don't really know a place where we could do it, haven't got enough space here...

I'm just asking if anyone would be interested

Re: Forum Meeting

Well, actually two meetings have already taken place: one in April '02, and one in January '03. You can find pictures from the second meeting here.

The first time we were at Jaz's and Ettena's places around Munich, the second meeting took place right here in CH/FL. So where would we meet this time? :-)

[EDIT - People I know live around central Europe]

Relatively close:
Southern Germany: Jaz, Ettena, wizz, oxygenius, Alekseji
Switzerland/Liechtenstein: Orchid, null (my humble self), Magicdead (you)
Austria (Vorarlberg/Tirol): madmaxx, weasel(?)

Not so close:
ivy - Southern Sweden
andromacha - Torino, Italy
sinister_minister, fallenangel, jbooker - UK

(All in the order they came to my mind... and it's late at night here, so please don't feel offended if I've omitted you)

Re: Forum Meeting

Switzerland would be great,it's so central for europe and because I haven't made my driving license yet, I shouldn't have to walk more than 30 days ;)

Well my dad doesn't like it when many people are here, so I have to drug him or buy one of those explosive neclaces, but we have a "Community House" in our street for public use, quite big, a sweet italian pizza-oven enough space to sleep, beneath the Community-center is the community sauna ("Original Swedish Sauna...made in switzerland" that's what's written on it) with a big room in front of it and yes...we got a jacuzzi in the garden, but that the shrine of my father, it's holy and untouchable unless he's away.

Well yes my town is the town of Schaffhausen, which has a Swiss trains-station, and a german (DB) trainstation, and it ain't too far away from zurich airport. Well, lets see if it's good.

Got any better places? Like we could hi-jack an airplane and go to the bahamas. But it's too bad...I always wanted ti hi-jack an airplane using a Pencil, but the cut of the tops of your sharpened pencils at the airport, i think they know me and that's why they did it.
Anyways, looking forward to it

At some point next summer, I will be in Germany, possibly Austria or Hungary, so I might even be able to drop by, be the annoying kid of the group, say stupid things in American English, and get promptly kicked out by the almighty German and Swiss folk. Sound good?

I'd be in, provided we find a place to crash for us all. I really enjoyed the days at null's place. It also had the benefit of Mr Crash and the Friendly Neighbor :)

What I could offer, considered Ettena plays along;

  • Augsburg

Three or four people on air mattresses

  • Munich Part Two

Unlimited number of people on real mattresses

@null: Let's limit the list to currently active people.

@all: From previous experience I think we should give this plenty of lead time.

Hmm Munich is quite far away if i travel by train (went to Nürnberg once, took quite a time...)

Well null if it's too far away I hope I could drive with you (the famous Taxi-Null ;) )

apart from distance I don't care about the place

Ah yeah, our Community-Center thing would have enough space for 10 - 20 people to sleep there, has a toilet and a shower, a kitchen and everything you need.

Well there isn't something like a bowling-center here, we only have about 3 discos, many bars and a Kinepolis cinema (One of the big ones with the cool surroundsound) or if it's still warm you can go swimming in the Rhein. You can visit the Rheinfall, buy little Swissflags for the price you could normally buy 20 flags for ;) or play minigolf, well the avarage things you can do in a town with 35000 inhabitants + suburbs.
Mhh the old City is beautiful if you like old buildings.

When do you ppl have holidays anyways?

Very well then, so here's the current list of active NAOees probably able to join in:

  • Southern Germany: Jaz, Ettena, wizz, oxygenius, Alekseji (is he still considered active?)

  • Switzerland/Liechtenstein: Orchid, null (my humble self), Magicdead (you), MrCrash

  • Somewhere in Germany/Austria/Hungary at a not yet known time: Magnifico

As always: Who else would like to join us?

nullTaxi
If the meeting point is close enough (i.e. not Berlin or Helsinki), I'll probably take my car with me, which means that there would be a nullTaxi again. (There are currently 4 people from Switzerland/FL, which would make the perfect number of passengers.) My car is even older than at the last meeting :-P but still no breakdown or major problem, and there's international 24h breakdown service available.

Place
I'd like to invite you here again, but I'd first have to check whether there's enough space, and you probably want to try some other location anyway. :-) So what suggestions do you have?
(Given the current prices of low-cost flights, we're not even restricted to central Europe.)

Date
I agree with Jaz that we should pick a date a bit in the future. Meetings of this kind tend to take a lot of time to organize.

I would like to join in, if I may. Southern Germany.

And I am also able to offer a marcTaxi (which - of course - cannot make up for the thrill of a nullTaxi, but... anyway).

For the sake of some clarity, this would be probably mid-summer of next year (summer of 2004)

I'd certainly be in, although all I could offer are some seats in my car, not a place to meet. Anywhere in southern Germany / Switzerland would be fine to me.

Time: university starts mid-october, but any date without exams (-> 98% of the year) should be fine :-)

I don't care if it's Schaffhausen (I've got a friend there, so it's good) or Buchs SG/FL.
But Buchs SG would be very fine for me :)

You own a Mac? My respect! For help with the layout problems you should get a geek to install this on your Apple gem.

Unfortunately it's not her own Mac (or I'd have installed Opera in no time :-P ) but just the machine at work, where she's not allowed to install software and thus is stuck with crappy Internet Exploder.
(I mean it - IE on Windows may be buggy, but a Mac-IE user is lucky when every second page is displayed approximately right!)

Well, that means we've got enough cars for everybody both in Switzerland and Germany, which considerably extends our radius of action during the meeting! :-)

Well I think i've got time most weekends, have nothing important I couldn't move.

Like gimpy on undergrads...

For those of you who don't know, Undergrads is a cartoon about a group of friends just starting college and gimpy is the computer nerd. He rarely shows up in person, but he'll pop up on people's computer screens and join in the conversation.
