How many years did it take for goodness to cross the Atlantic - I've lost count. But at last I can buy convenient plastic bottles filled with bliss and happiness legally in any German store.

What the hell! They began to sell Cherry Coke four or five years ago over here. Meanwhile this most delicious substance has already disappeared from German shelves again, which is a real shame.

how many fantas are there?

The best soft drink ever used to be Fanta Pink Grapefruit, which was perfectly balanced between sour and sweet.

Unfortunately Pink Grapefruit shared the same fate as Cherry Coke in Germany.

Cheery Coke, Fanta Pink Grapefruit, Kinley, Crystal Pepsi - the thought that Vanilla Coke might disappear as well one day makes me wet my pants. Why are they doing this to me?

Mountain Dew is still alive and well in America; in fact, it had a permanent addition a while ago (Code Red, which is supposed to be a berry-flavor-accented one) and a temporary flavor this summer ("Live Wire," an Orange-Soda-type Dew).

Mountain Dew, as the pinnacle of mainstream soft drinks when it comes to caffeine content, is a big hit among the many computer freaks of this great nation.

Yes mountain dew is still available in Australia but not for very much longer i think...too many fantas with similar tastes are taking over the allmighty soft drink trade market.

however, all the stores now sell it for about a fifth of the price which means cheap stingy bastrads (such as myself) can BUY BIG!

ahhh, the wonders of "Bulk buy"

about the diet lemon but not normal lemon, yes we too have this problem, but i don't think it's high on the priority list as we are blessed with multiple kinds of PEPSI. yes we have pepsi, diet pepsi, caffeinne free diet pepsi (now someone tell what the fucking point in that is??why drink it in the first place), pepsi max(this is the good stuff, low sugar, high sugar supplement, caffeinne levels going off the charts), pepsi with a twist (lemon pepsi), and blue pepsi...too disgusting to contemplate.

i believe that is all. yes my brother agrees and the cynic he is has said only "ahh the wonders of overseas marketing" i have trained him too well :D

hope this helped you understand the globalisation of soft drink

By the way, Vanilla is an original part of the normal Coca Cola recipe. The world greatest manufactor of Vanilla is Madagascar which produces more than 80% of the world vanilla production!
Coca-Cola is the biggest buyer of sugar and vanilla world wide. The new Vanilla Coke would need more vanilla than the world-wide production of vanilla could deliver. Therefore the vanilla in Vanilla Coke will be artificial.

Cheers...

Re: Vanilla is here

There are chocolate covered crisps in Germany. They are called 'Schoko Crossies' and they are very good!

If you can’t get them in Britain try to make them yourself:
You can use Cornflakes and milk-chocolate.
Melt the chocolate and stir in the flakes. Then use a teaspoon to take the chocolate covered flake out of the pot and drop them in tiny heaps on a plate to let them cool down.
If you want to make them special add almond crisps or coconut flakes. Almonds are also in the original 'Schoko Crossies'.
If you add a little coconut fat (palmin) you will get them perfect. If you do not have coconut fat use butter instead.

Use your inspiration, you can’t go wrong!

Hmmm, we have similar things we make here...They were all the rage at kiddy parties but not so much anymore...I'm here to rectify the situation :D

chocolate crackles
4 cups rice bubbles
1 cup dessicated cocnut
1/2 cup cocoa
1 cup icing sugar
250g butter
(36 patty cases...The paper cup things you put cupcakes in ;))

in a large bowl combine rice bubbles, coconut, cocoa and icing sugar. Melt butter in a small saucepan, add to dry ingredients and mix well. Spoon misture into paper patty cases. Chill until firm. Makes about 36.

You can also add a cup of raisins if you like but ihjate raisins and therefore ommited them from the "ancient five year old birthday" recipe. I also like mixing in mini m&m's...So colourful. Raisins can go in with dry ingredients. But it's best to add m&m's about a minute after adding butter so it's cooled down and doesn't melt the m&m's leaving you with sticky colourful mess everywhere.

Ok, so essentially the same as chane's...But you forgot the icing sugar and butter and m&m's...All that unhealthy stuff!!

Use your inspiration, you can’t go wrong!

Indeed...Try adding honeycomb! And there really nice with a slurp of baileys mixed in too!!

Re: Vanilla is here

Interresting background...

The Vanilla Company writes:

The two most common sources for synthetic vanillin have been Lignin Vanillin, a by-product of the paper industry, which has been chemically treated to resemble the taste of pure vanilla extract, and Ethyl Vanillin, which is a coal-tar derivative and frequently far stronger than either Lignin Vanillin or pure vanilla.

In the 1930s, the Ontario Paper Company, was struggling with the sulphite liquor, a by-product of paper making, which was polluting local streams near their plant. Company chemists realized it could be turned into synthetic vanillin, a viable but curious ecological solution to a big problem.

Additional fun fact (dating from 1998):

  • World-wide annual demand for vanilla flavour: 12'000 tons

  • World-wide production of natural vanilla: 20 tons.

Interesting indeed... :)

That makes me a sa-a-a-a-a-ad Panda...

Re: Vanilla is here

We have made Ethyl Vanillin in Chemistry ourselves :)
mhh I forgot how to make it (I only remember explosive stuff :) ) but it was fun. I mean you take some stuff that is even poisonous and get vanillin out of it. (I think you need a stuff that can produce cancer to make it)

(Ok, the reaction where you make sugar out of hydrochloric Acid and some other stuff was more interesting :) )

Well, I like Vanilla Coke, but I could never drink a whole bottle of it, it's just too tasty.

But If you ever come to switzerland and end up at a Gasstation, go look it the have something called " Tinga ".
It has to be about the best drink ever made.
It's made out of Orange-, Pineapple-, Mango(not sure if it's Mango in English)-, Citron-, Apple- and Passionfruitjuice.
Comes in 2litre bottles and with 5 dl you have the daily needed amount of many vitamins. (I usually drink the whole 2 litres)

You may mix it with every high-percent (20% up) alcool stuff to get a Longdrinks, it mixes with everything :)

Gee I'm so happy to live 10 metres away from the next gas station :)
