Possible shutdown of the Programming forum

71% | 4

The Programming forum is filled with so much junk these days that I consider closing it down for good. Questions are being asked in a manner that is close to offending and the number of idiots who consider this forum their personal help desk has grown to a number that is no longer acceptable.

I've arranged it that links to Netalive.org have been taken off two other frequently visited programming sites. I will also be aggressively moderating the Programming forums in the next few days and delete any junk on sight.

Finally posting to the programming forum has been restricted to users ranking one bright red star and higher.

If these measures are not going to help I consider closing down this forum for good.

Jaz,

instead of closing down the programming forum I suggest to block those users sending the trash.
In case they try to access the system again you could verify them by their email address. This means you would keep a NEO black list.
OK, they could change their address but if your complains refer to those guys posting the childish programming questions, they most probably won't even know how to create a new email address.

On the other hand I think that some of the posts, like those of sureshkumar_infotech2010, have probably been written by young teenagers or children who have to complete some software tasks for school. The content of some of the postings is obviously insulting an experienced programmer but we all were beginners once. Try to take it easy, nobody got hurt.

maybe an option for having to agree to some additional rules when trying FIRST to post to the programmer forum, like they got it at Out Of The Dark, would be a better/additional way than simply exlcuding people by IP or rank.

@ change: the IP thingy wont work for most ISPs, cause many of them use dynamic, not static IPs, so when you log out and in once again, you always get a new IP.

no, I really think a page full of some rules, like following example will help to reduce the mindless clutter which currently is there:

introduction:

yes, once upon a time, we all were newbies and fucking lamers, but we graduated - but not by letting other people do OUR homework. this is a place where the people want to life in piece, not being your goddamn automated riddle solving machine.

some helpful sites:

so, how you can get your homework/riddle solved in some other way than by spamming this site and afterwards getting your head removed, is working through some of the following, possible useful links:

  • HotScripts.com - some good directory on where to find good tutorials and resources for CGI/PHP/etc. scripts

  • carbonfour.com - quite stylish designed website which may inspire your mind (including the links to other sites)

  • etc.

knowledge base

of course, you also may research already asked questions in the programmer forum ITSELF - either using the integrated forum search or by opening the most promising topics and reading them.

yours, bG.

It would be great if something like that could work. However I think the average idiot is completely rules-blind in that respect. They will click through any agreement even if it promises me their first-born.

Unfortunately most of the junk is not posted by repeated offenders, but by kids who come to dump one or two questions and never come back.

Of course massive moderation is always left as an option but because of the amount of work involved and the overall unprettyness of the solution I would prefer another way.

On the other hand I think that some of the posts, like those of sureshkumar_infotech2010, have probably been written by young teenagers or children who have to complete some software tasks for school. No doubt some of these posts have their place somewhere, but not here. There are some minimum standards I want postings on this site to adhere to, that is the whole point of Netalive. I feel I have allowed a few too many broken windows recently, and one broken window leads to another. Maybe that is why this has been annoying me so much lately.

I'll try to take your advice and take it easy.
