Reading Site Related

Well, the original discussion thread about a third official NAO meeting appears to have dried up, so I'm herewith trying to revive it. :-)

Not yet trying to make a detailed plan, just collecting ideas, here are my 0.02:

Location(s)

• Jaz, the creative mind behind NAO, and a bunch of other NAOees are to be found around Munich/Augsburg/Dachau (southern Germany), so maybe we can meet around there. For those who haven't been to Munich yet, it's a great town and definitely worth a visit!

• Provided there won't be too many people to accommodate, I'd like to offer my humble apartment (eastern Switzerland) and whatever space (Martin the friendly neighbour's apartment or Orchid's parents' house ;-) ) I might be able to capture. MrCrash could probably also sleep at another neighbor's. :-P

• Your suggestion?

• For everybody who can't make it, we could try to set up a webcam or something. Maybe this time we'll get it working before the meeting is over :-D

Date / Duration

The last two meetings started at a Friday evening and ended around Sunday afternoon, which would look pretty okay to me. From previous experience I'd say we shouldn't pick a date before January. What would you suggest??

Things to do

Of course this depends on the location. Sightseeing or some card game (or the official NAO Meeting game, Tabu :-) ) are always appropriate. Maybe we can have a small key-signing party.

Alternative Meetings

For those not living in central Europe, maybe you can meet someplace else and we can have multiple simultaneous, webcam-linked meetings all over the world?

Misc Stuff

• Who would like to attend the meeting?

• As proposed by oxygenius/ginsterbusch, we could probably build a Poor NAOees' Travel Fund, where people donate small(!) amounts of money to support less well-heeled people with greater travel expenses. Only if needed of course.

If we meet sometime around January, we might even be able to celebrate the original NAO's 5 1/2th birthday. If we wait a little longer, there's a chance we can have a real American with us!

Well, you could always browse the pictures of the last meeting until we have a working web cam. And of course we will only reveal the NAOcam™ URL/password to people who provide us with photographic material of themselves!

People: Since there's no longer such a central European domination of Netalive.org I'd propose the following: Everyone is welcome to join, but for the chance that not so many new people feel hardcore enough to meet with us freaks, let's just make this a small get-together and have a fun weekend. I'd love to see you and Tamara and Urs again and wouldn't mind spending two days even if it's just a small circle.

Of course everyone else is a great bonus and totally welcome. I still hope for everyone who was interested in joining in the previous thread (wizz, Magicdead and his chainmail, marc).

Date: I will write down a date and you tell me what you think about it:

January 16th - 18th 2004

This is about the time we met this year.

Place: It would be great to spend another two nights at your place in Switzerland because I a) enjoyed it very much the last time and b) would really like to get away for a weekend.

Travel fund: I would chip in a few Euros.

Magnifico: Because his visit to Europe is still almost a year away, I'd say we arrange something extra if he feels freak enough to want to meet us then.

So it looks like Switzerland II could be an option. Of course you'd all be very welcome, but before we fix anything, give me some time to check how much space we would have. After all, if I'm going to reserve Orchids or my neighbours' places, I should ask them first. :-P

Transportation: If we meet in Switzerland, travelling here should be very affordable for most of you Bavarian folks. wizz has already offered 3 seats in his car, and even if that wouldn't work out or there are more people, we still have the nullTaxi to pick you up at Lindau (just like last time).

Well, the beds are available so I don't think it'll be a problem to accodomate at least two people unless my mother doesn't cause trouble ;)

The date sounds good, seems to be safe from any exams.

Switzerland would be great of course, as Munich wouldn't be that exciting to me :-). Granted null doesn't mind, of course.
Transportation services (i.e. three seats in my car) are available.

A contribution to a travel fund would be ok, too.

Travel plans appear to have changed (like they do), because it seems that I can't, with the group we'll tour Spain with, change how I end the trip. Everybody else returns to America from San Sebastian, which means, apparently, that I have to do the same. No Germany/Austria/Switzerland. Sorry, guys. . . maybe I'll see you for the World Cup?

As it turns out, stepping on toes is exactly what it took. I've got a plane booked from Madrid to München for late June! I'll be in Nuremburg, Frankfurt, and Munich, as well as Vienna and Prague. I don't have an exact timeline for when I'll be in each place (not too long, I'd imagine), but it'd still be cool to get to meet some of you guys in person if the chance arises!

I didn't even make the connection (stupid). The ticket said something something München, forgot that the two are the same. However, I'd definitely be interested in an 'alternative' view of Munich. I've already got a copy of "Weird Europe," but it's a tad old, and it's more of a gimicky kind of weird. And I'm not much for jarred babies.
