Actually that's not quite correct. The site isn't set-up to do photo hosting, per se. It's actually a website for photographers. This site, photo.net, lets one post his or her portfolio on their servers. I'm actually uploading a bunch of my pictures as I'm writing this entry.
It's going smooth enough, the interface is fairly easy to maneuver, and one can get to where he needs to easy enough. At this point, I've uploaded 35 pictures. My limit as a non-paying member, is 100. I have about 30 more to go.
I'll be posting more about this a little later today, if all goes well, or even if not.
I'll bet that just took 5 years off my life--but GODDAMM if it wasn't worth every second
Well ... it's kinda ugly for a site defining itself as "for photographers": Text in Times New Roman, NOT justified, colours that do not match (looks like promo for a toothpaste or something; cyan and dark gray .. argh! =8-o) - it might be only the function of uploading photos who really might be good.
but I wouldnt want to present my photos online at such an ugly hag of a website - looks like as if they did that with Netscape Composer or something similar (Frontplague Excess??) ... looks more like for your standard family photos than something else, sorry.
a site for photographers, artists in general, etc. should IMHO look like this: http://deviantart.com

Hey that's nothing. If you like that you should see our buildings!
Actually free posting for 100 photos sounds like a good reason to me. My feeling is that sometimes the truly creative ones don't get to have their say in the design phase. And perhaps, they're not operating on a decent budget so they're using freeware, who knows.
And let me say this, before shaking your head so hard you violently wretch, go look at what I postedZen's Link and tell me if you don't think it's the perfect site for it.
I like your link alot. I'm gonna check it out. Thanks.

My foot!!
Alright, at least the lame, hag site didn't make me wait 12 hours (and still counting) in order to join. I suppose, with all those millions of "deviants" they have, it'll take them a month or two to process my request for membership. I hope it'll be worth the wait.
If you strip away the database of emoticons, the gratuitous "Hardware" sections (which can only appeal to website-designing Germans), the drab army-puke pea green color which sticks to everything like mold on a sock, and the lack-lustre font set, and, oh yes, the blatent ads for--well, I'm not going to give those conglomerates anymore air time than "deviantArt" already has, then it's pretty much the same site as the one that I found.
Oh, there is one major difference. At least the postings on
Photo.net live up to the name. I'm still looking to find the deviants over there. Or at least deviant art. Looked pretty maudlin and derivative to me. Maybe they just didn't know how to spell DerivativeArt.com
(Still a good link overall, ya prick!!)

Note: I didnt attack YOU personally, but was talking about the site you mentioned. but if you're so arrogant taking any negative critics personally, this might be not the right place for you to post. ;)
I'm sure I also can be an arsehole and take anything one's saying - no matter what relation - very personally and do act as if I was very deeply struck, deeply emotionally shaken and willing to attack anyone who crosses the red line.
but i DONT, and that makes the difference ;)
So dont take critics in here, may they be positive or negative, too personal - thanks in advance,
yours, bG.

Was this the personal comment?
which can only appeal to website-designing Germans
If that's offensive, sorry. It was meant to be funny.
I thought: could it be possible for a cizilized, intelligent person to be so crass and blunt as you were in your original reply? I thought he's obviously joking. By the way he's being so rude and blunt, this is just a humerous comment. You did mean that to be funny right?
I took what you said in the spirit of good fun and cheerful "competition." So that's the spirit I slagged your site/post. I didn't think that I was directing those pointed comments about that site to you.
LATER:
I reread what I posted. I hope you didn't think I was serious when I called you a prick. Over here they call that "just talkin shit." It's like when you said I write like a chick. Another guy would've taken that as a huge insult. I thought it was funny. I did say "Overall I thought it was a good post." I though that would give you the clue that I was kidding. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
(But let me tell you something. I 've read alot of what you've posted. You're direct, blunt, no-nonsense. And you can come across like a prick sometimes. Sorry :( Someone, somewhere must have said that before? )

nah, not once you realise that it's not meant to be ofensive. it's just a line of thought. and we love him for it!

Edit - realised post made no sense.

Better be direct and looking like as acting offensive as doing a big great dance around the hot potatoe ;)
of course, I didnt see your post as an attack towards me - but written whilst trying to achieve the same direct style I did use. but the problem with written things always is: can you really be sure about that what you interprete ibto the lines the author did write, or maybe he meant to gwt a complete different reaction.
yours, bG.
ps: you're wrong - i'm sometimes not a prick - but I can be sometimes a "zicke" ;) (I think I've already looked that up in a dictionary, but cant find the english translation of this now, sorry).
Multiple exclamation marks are a sure sign for a diseased mind!
It's good of you to say that. I don't think the problem is just language--although that's a big thing. (I was going to do a journal entry about the way we use language as a defense/offense mechanism, and also to describe and exlain our love to people.)
Anyway, the funny thing for me was that I thought you'd love what I posted because I tried to do it in your direct style, but just a little bit "sharper." Guess I was too sharp or something, linda like a really old cheese that's just gone from being moldy to bad. (Or something like that.)
What I understand you saying is that we just don't know each other well enough to know if either of us is just kidding or not. The funny thing is that there's people around me that I deal with every day that I'm still trying to determine "where they're coming from."
And of course you're right. I agree: no dancing around the hot potatoe! :)
(p.s. I'll have to find you a GOOD dictionary that has the good words in it. My guess is that "zicke" and "prick" are probably the same word.)
(Oh, BTW, I did get my place on the deviantArt site. I had to use a different mail...probably a problem with AOL or something. It may have potential.)

ehem - you know what you're talking about? deviantart is one of the oldest and most well-known places that has to do with the thing of publishing your art in a community on the web.
And no, I wont discuss the definition of 'art'. this already was done by others who thought there was 'right art' and 'entartete Kunst'. Not even to mention Dada.
yours, bG.

That's funny :) I've never heard of dA before this. I need to get a better agent.
'entartete Kunst,'what is?
(I'm going to have to find a universal translator...)]
DaDa is to me, as Spock (of Star Trek) once defined logic: a wreath of pretty flowers that smells bad.

Sorry, up to this point Germany art history wasn't big on my "To Do" list. I am familiar with Bauhaus and DaDa-ism. Over here in the states if you're talking about 30's to 40' it's automatically Deco.
I'll look that up so we can have an interesting discussion on entartete kunst.
(Oh, btw, I submitted a handful of things on dA "Ghosts of Norwich." It's neat. I'm having fun over there.)
