Katana Swords and Iaido/Kendo

?% | 1

Has anyone here done Iaido or Kendo? Or even handled a Katana sword? Does anyone actually know what they mean? Im sorry if I come off a bit weird or the fact that I'll probably only post about martial arts and anime/manga makes me weird ^.^ I just think that Iaido rocks and is something I'd like to do myself but my parents dont agree to let me do something where I can learn how to wield a sword so I was wondering and sorta hoping that I could get some feed back from people who would have an idea.

Thanks ^.^

Are you from Germany? I'm sure you will find schools there where you can learn Iaido or Kendo!
I myself own a katana but there's no school near me so I'm just exercising without weapon (karate).

Yeah I'm from Germany but I live in Port Townsend right now so Its a pain the the ass trying to find a dojo near me because we have nothing closer than Seattle which is two hours away. Btw where did you get the katana .. I'm trying to find a good deal on swords because I need to pick a few up. Oh and if you like martial arts you might want to check out Fight AuthorityIts a really good forum all about MA

I bought my katana in Barcelona. It was quiet cheap but of course made in Spain but Toledo steel is famous, so... :)

First: battle-ready weapon or just for hanging it on the wall?
Suggestion: if you happen to be around some supplier of training material for martial arts/combat styles, eg. in Munich, Rotkreuzplatz, Dogo-Ya, you might want to buy yourself a Bokuto (aka Bokken) to train with it instead ;)

Re: Katana Swords and Iaido/Kendo

I just think that Iaido rocks and is something I'd like to do myself

You first should learn how to fight and do the katana right, so normally you would start off with Kendo and only later go on with Iaido. Some good sites about this topic I'd suggest (and recommend) you to stroll over would be:

- Info zur Aikiken-Abteilung im ESV München
- Kendo in den Japanischen Kampfkünsten e.V. München
- the legendary Japanese Sword Arts FAQ Version 2.7
- the renewed version 2.9 of above mentioned Sword FAQ
- some helpful, but not all too much complete kendo word glossary
- some kendo schools in the UK

Ive been studying various martial arts since i was 11(im 17 now) and i would suggest getting a bokken as well. kendo is more for sport, if your into that , you might want to try a website like www.kendoshop.com which has all you need to get started (except the dojo =_= of course)
