I'm totally serious, so hear me out.
Greatest sport on earth. Most fun to watch, most fun to play, and unlike other sports, you aren't constantly hearing about players or former players doing drugs, taking steroids, driving drunk, beating up their wives and such.
Why does it seem like people outside of Canada (where i live) only seem to talk about hockey when they're talking about how bad it is? Why does someone have to lose control and hurt someone before the media pays attention?
I do believe the senseless violence is wrong, and should be dealt with. But there's so much more to the game than that. You can't wrap it all in one big package and call it a "Blood Sport." That's just not right.
I am not against fighting in hockey. If two people want to settle their differences on the ice and agree to take the five minute penalty, I say let them. It's better there then in their home, or a bar, or on the street.
Injuries do not often occur because of fighting! People get hurt because of hits from behind, slashing, or cheap, dirty plays like (jumping to a specific incident) Steve Moore's blindside hit on Marcus Naslund. Concurrently, if Moore had turned around and faught with Bertuzzi like Bertuzzi wanted him to, he would have ended up with a cut, some bruises, and *maybe* a broken nose or a concussion. Instead, he waited to see if Bertuzzi would attack him, take a penalty, and give his team a power play. I don't condone what bertuzzi did, i'm just saying what would have happened.
The best hockey I've ever seen was the 2002 olympics. Lots of speed, excitement, and good clean play. The way hockey was meant to be. (plus we won!)

I know a lot of people in my place who are very passionate about hockey. However those are usually playing themselves in lower leagues, or have very close friends or family members who do.
