Well, I collect SSDI...Social Security Disability. I can see the groaning already, but do not knock it. It helps me live, and survive, and attend college. My mother had gotten it for me for less than honest reasons on her part, but when she had kicked me out of her house 6 years ago, I changed whome my payee is, my caretaker, whome is my room mate. The cheques are in his name, and I have never been happier.

All this is told to have today's little sordid tale make sense.

I checked my PO Box today, and to my shock, I had gotten something from the SSDI office...it was a memo, a notice saying I had a medical evaluation to attend to. It also had my mother's name on it as well, above my own. I opened it, since it was in my mailbox, with my name. I'm an adult, right? Thinking my mother was up to her old tricks once more, I called the SSDI hotline...I had told her I had gotten this in the mail, and I opened it, but it also had my mother's name on it as my payee...and the operator lambasted me...saying that she was going to report me, that I've commited a federal offence, I've commited a crime...she refused to listen to reason. She was condacending, and she treated me as if I were a child, and already guilty in her eyes.

This triggered my disability, giving me a panic attack. I was sobbing in hysterics, almost screaming into the phone. It took my room mate, and his mother one the phone, to calm me down from it....when I was calmer, I called the SSDI hotline once more. I had gotten a nicer operator, whome told me I was in the right for opening the letter, that no crime was committed on my end. I reported the first operator.

UGH.....I hate people......if you work with the public in anyway, please...if you have a bad day, tis no excuse to take it out on those whome you work for/with.....

Hm ... No, doesnt make 'click' inside my head - what is this? You have to bear in mind that several, if not even lots of people on here do not live in the US, but indeed do live in places like Germany, Australia, Italy, Japan, etc. Of course, all of these other countries do have different social systems (if they got some at all). So once again my question to you is: What is this so-called SSDI about? Is it some money you get paid by an official department or similar? Because you cant rise any/not enough funds/earn money by yourself? In Germany, this would either be called 'Sozialhilfe' or, if you've worked at least 24 months before and now are unemployed, 'Arbeitslosenhilfe'.

So once again my question to you is: What is this so-called SSDI about? Is it some money you get paid by an official department or similar? Because you cant rise any/not enough funds/earn money by yourself?

I have a disability...which I'd rather not disclose on this forum...but it prevents me from working like a normal, functioning person. The United States Government has a program, Social Security Disability, inwhich I get finances and health benefits so I can continue living.
