I was scrolling through the list of users earlier, and I started seeing people with low star rankings that had according to the little post summery submitted a couple of comments and that were rated quite well.
It made me wonder why these people didn't post more. Did they feel like they weren't getting anywhere? Perhaps they were a bit frightened while reading posts written by higher ranked members (I know it was a bit intimidating to me at first)? Or, even the worst of all, they forgot about us? Whatever the reason may be, I'm writting this in hopes that they might drop in and lurk long enough to notice my little journal entry.
I want to welcome those of you who had good input to come back and join us again. And for those other little red stars that haven't spoken up at all, come and say hello. We don't bite, really we don't. And maybe a few of you that had a rocky start should try again, for I know most of us are open minded people who are willing to give people a second chance. :)

What a good post!
Im new to this site and i know exactly what you mean. My posts so far are hitting around the 50% mark and i gather thats not too good but im ceratinly not put off. I notice there is quite a select band of people who use the site a lot, probably no more than 20 or so names i keep seeing. It can feel a little bit like you are crashing a private party.
The way i see if you like the site and feel the issues discussed appeal to you then why not join and have your say? Reading other entries im well aware that im far from the most intelligent user but i still feel i can give useful input on some subjects.
Well done for raising the subject and well said.
Simon

Everyone of those have started with a single red star, too. Crash all you want!
'Repent, Harlequin!' said the Ticktockman. 'Get stuffed!' the Harlequin replied, sneering.
Yeah I know what you mean. I have 2 red stars at the moment, I think and sometimes you do get intimitated by higher ranked users or more intellegant sounding posts than you think your own is going to be. And yeah I keep seeing the same names but the few people I've spoken to or who have replied to my posts have all been really friendly. About ratings I think my posts have scored around 70% upwards. Is that good, bad, average? I've read the rating help pages but I'm still not sure I quite understand it all.

I say you're off to a decent start with your posts. I'm not sure but I don't think most of my firsts post got rated very high either. And do come and crash our party as wizz and null both pointed out.

Thank you very much. :-)

One other thing ive noticed: Its so easy finding yourself agreeing or just saying things to get you high ratings.
I think the ratings are a good idea but their drawback is that it could stop people who want a good rating saying what they really feel on a subject. I think the ratings are a good thing to have as long as everybody using this site realises that expressing your true opinion and therefore making healthy discussion is more important than getting high ratings. True in a perfect world we would all rate according to the how good the post is regardless of our own views but i guess its only human nature to think more highly of a post which you agree with.
Thanks for the warm welcome anyway, im still trying to find some inspiration for what to write in my first journal, but im sure something will come up.
Cheers,
Simon
