Bunk *** has an idea...

Reality 101

100% | 10

When you are watching a pool of water and it is disturbed by a single drop there is a splash and the ripples spread accross the surface. Of course the "splash" and the "ripples" you percieve aren't in any way connected to the water, in fact your brain is processing isn't the event at all, your brain is simply processing the nerve signal pulsing into your cerebrum and triggering a response. What you "see" isn't an object, it's a refection of light energy bouncing into your corneas.

What we all know is that we percieve the universe with these sensations. But the thing is, we also create our universe with our perceptions.

The funny thing is, no one gave me my universe. I was supposed to create it on my own. And yet with all my searching, I have yet to find that which is beyond recourse, beyond consideration. I can't give anything up because I find truth and lies in all of it, and it is the same truth, the same lies.

I'm free. And trapped by the fact that while we are all different couriers of the same message, is it my similarity that is my main difference. I only see one truth so often, I know there is one right thing because illusion is the connecter. We are all the same because we are all wrong.

Consider what I write a proposal to you all.

I speak it not because I am assured of it's truth, but because I accept my fallacies because it is them that connect us. I want to hear you all, your thoughts, to add your dimentions, and by doing that expand my own. Together we are stronger.

I have to end with a line don't I? A finish? That's the funniest thing, to go on and say everything and no one thinks you said anything. Sometimes the truth is so obvious that no one ever puts it into words. And really, is it me talking? An order tells my fingers to press the keys, a circuit tells my computer to transmit a number, a disconnected action tells you to process the light emmiting from the diodes of your monitor.

Make what you want out of it. Something from nothing. It's what we do.

But I can't find no place or nothin', where thrills are cheap, and love is divine

Some things just don't make any sense.

And bunk, my freind, you have stumbled upon one of those things. I wish that I could respond with something equally as astonishing on this subject but I can't. You really hit the nail on the head.
I suppose that is the self same reason that two people can speak of the exact same thing and disagree on it...

I should be ashamed of myself.

An order tells my fingers to press the keys, a circuit tells my computer to transmit a number, a disconnected action tells you to process the light emmiting from the diodes of your monitor.

And I come around to the old question, whether that concept of "you" and "me" has any meaning, for how should I know whether that electrical pulse in my brain really represents some light from my monitor, really showing some text that was actually created halfway round the globe by another human being. Or is just an illusion itself.

Yet, never have I been able to put these so familiar thoughts into such poetic words. It can't be an illusion, because how could I have created it? It's good to be reminded of that, sometimes.

Btw: Why 101? An allusion to Orwell's "Room 101"? I hope not...

'Repent, Harlequin!' said the Ticktockman. 'Get stuffed!' the Harlequin replied, sneering.

Yeah, I hope not also. :) No... well, 101 often refers to the basic first course in any subject (aka Math 101), but it was more or less simply the title that occured to me at that moment in time (after I deleted the first three I came up with).

And I come around to the old question, whether that concept of "you" and "me" has any meaning, for how should I know whether that electrical pulse in my brain really represents some light from my monitor, really showing some text that was actually created halfway round the globe by another human being. The only time I am convinced about reality is when I reach that state when all the thoughts slip away, when there are no distractions. I take a deep breath, and become aware of all my senses, each acutely harmonizing. Just for brief moments, I feel like I really am in this world, existing without deceptions. Or when reading the words of another, an idea resents itself, and a revelation is had.

But other than that, it is quite the limbo.

But I can't find no place or nothin', where thrills are cheap, and love is divine

Very, very lovely.

I believe I am, there for I am. And what constitutes this belief? That I precieve myself in such a manner as to see myself in a certian way based on the type of star that covers this planet in daylight, and at night I percieve myself yet another way defined by the amount of light available.
Which brings up the question, if the light waves of our nearest star were filtered in such a way through the atmosphere as to change the level of light waves reflect back would we percieve ourselves quite differently?

My experience tells me several things, but my experience varies in different degrees from everyone else on the planet. Even my ablity to process information varies. So the end result for me may be the same or different from the next person and how we relate that may or may not cause conflict based on how we understand what's been said.

The beauty of it all is that has the effect of creating a bigger view with in us. We are like the drop of water in the pool you discrbe and the rest of humanity is like the pool. And for each of us in turn, when we percieve another person become part of the pool watching the drop of water falling into the pool to become the rest of the whole.

Truth is beauty, and beauty is truth. But in the same light, beauty is in the eye of the beholder..
Two sides of the same coin and at the same time two sides of a single coin...
dancing through time, through the universe, collecting parts and peices, and at the same time leaving parts and peices as it goes on and yet stays in the same place, depending on where the energy frame it's observed through.

The cosmic dance, we are all part of it, and that makes us one...yes?

It only looks that way because your standing on your head.

Bunk... is this a way to rephrase our conversations in "Fate"? To see that someone else can find the relativity of reality through our completely distant yet relative unity in our perception against "truth" brings me a joy that can only be expressed in tears.

To see reality without bars, without the hold of sensory perception, to take the universe as man's interpretation... To accept that we are all victims of circumstance. We can do nothing but reply a predetermined response to chemical triggers.

I must ask... have you ever read simulation and simulacrum? Oh... these are the songs of my heart.

Thank you for a beautiful post.

The power of truth is action.

Bunk... is this a way to rephrase our conversations in "Fate"?

Partly, yes. I feel that everything I read, everything I learn, see and experience becomes a piece of me and then I do my best to put it together again in different ways. Indeed our conversations did play a part in it.

I must ask... have you ever read simulation and simulacrum?

No. Not yet at least. I'm always looking for new pieces of the puzzle... and what I've heard of it sounds interesting.

:) A perfectly beautiful idea. This is the definition of clarity.

I'm not sure I've ever felt more part of it then now. I wasn't sure about topic this as I was writing it (I rarely am) but... wow. Thanks everyone for your great replies. :)
