Speakers

My parents needed to move some speakers we weren't using from the gameroom so painting could begin, so I volunteered space in my room. These speakers are classics. I'm guessing circa 1970's really early 80's. The brand is ESS and they are stand speakers, 1 foot wide, 1 foot in depth, and about 4 feet tall.

I then had an Idea. I pull a preamp about the same age (Pioneer SX-828) out and hooked up the speakers. To give you an idea how old this was, the selector knob selections were Phono, Tape Deck 1 and 2, FM Radio, AM Radio, and Aux. I then ran a long cord with an audio jack from the computer towards the preamp. At the other end (this cable had 1 male and 1 female small type audio jack ports) I attached an audio -> rca converter. On top of that I attached an RCA Splitter/Converger and hooked it all up to the AUX port of the preamp. Now I have wonderful Winamp Sound emitting from these massively beutiful, yet old, speakers.

Old sound equipment has no expiry date. I think my dad would tear me a second asshole if I ever replaced their ages old amp that still services me to this date.

Re: Speakers

No, they dont :D

I'd prefer to replace the pre-amp though, just because of inputs and lack of subwoofer output (even though the speakers are nice enough to where I really don't need them all that much)

Re: Speakers

Figured out what my speakers were (after extensive searching):

(circa) 1974 ESS AMT1 Stand Speakers with the Heil Tweeter/Midrange (and I estimate a 10" sub in each speaker).

My car sucks (1990 240 DL, everything still factory) but my room is pimped out.

Re: Speakers

Very nice daniel. I recently hooked up my two 15 inch speakers to my pc... along with my headphones and other stereo system...
It is amazing... The sound quality is amazing and suprisingly the 1984 stereo system... rocks harder than any ive seen recently. =/.

I'm willing to bet you my 1974 system can beat your 1984 system :) (I guess you are at a disadvantage considdering the Heil system to the mid-tweeter is the greatest ever created.)

On extreme bass or treble I can be beat, on overall clarity of sound, only a newer ESS speaker can beat me (unless of course you have a plasma tweeter, which you don't because they never went into production due to the extreme amounts of ozone produced and the extremely poor cost-effectiveness). Sounds egotistical, but I take my victories (very few) when I can.
