I thought (very basic definition follows) calculus was a way to play around with functions / curves, determine how they look like and how they behave, and about calculating which area these curves are surrounding together which the axis' or other functions.

More than a year ago I even wrote a huge tutorial on this topic myself with tons of explanation and illustrations, aimed at people who never really did this before. However it's all on German I'm afraid :(
