So you wanna own the competition?

Everybody knows you have to be good at using those bulky controllers to kill at Halo or wipe out the enemy in SOCOM, right? Not any more!

Introducing the coolest thing since sliced bread, the Smart Joy adapter.

Yeah, so, you say? Well, with this little low priced baby you can plug a mouse and keyboard into your XBOX or PS2 and have a high end gaming experience. No more turning around with your thumb while trying to play Twister with your fingers.

The Smart Joy gives you the full keyboard to use with preset key bindings for most of the current FPS games and offers advanced settings so you can make others for yourself. I just ordered it and if your looking forward to Halo 2, then you should too.

Check it out: Smart Joy

Re: So you wanna own the competition?

The Xbox S controllers aren't THAT big, c'mon... grow some hands man! ;)

But I agree, that does sound like it could have some uses. Probably a heck of a lot cheaper than getting a game worthy PC.

But I can't find no place or nothin', where thrills are cheap, and love is divine

Re: So you wanna own the competition?

It's not so much the size of them (they are a litle bulky) but the fact that I can reach all th buttons I need on a keyboard and there is no thumb stick involved. That makes turning a lot faster and aiming a LOT easier. That's really my point. lol

Oh all right, I suck on game pads. I can play them for everything but FPS games. But with a mouse and keyboard, I am pretty good.

The advantage is truly in the mouse. Granted, the keys are a great help and are by all means more usable than a joystick, but they don't really help out as much as the mouse.

I think this items biggest use will be in gaming, naturally, but I see a bit of usage for Linux conversions. Any true geek should at the least consider the product in question, that is if one of the aforementioned consoles is in their possession.

Cool item, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

I should be ashamed of myself.

Re: Blathering on...

Actually, if you look around a bit, they have ones specifically for the Linux crowd. And a bunch of other things if your looking for the strange and unusual in console games. I think I saw an adapter that lets you plug your console controller into a PC or Mac.

Re: So you wanna own the competition?

I suppose you are going to fly through the levels with that thing. In order to compensate for the crappy experience of using a gamepad to move around in a 3D world, most console shooters (including Halo) incorporate auto-aiming; so it's sufficient to point your gun into the general direction of the enemy and squeeze the trigger.

True enough but where it counts is in the online battles. People are just better than AI in most cases so you have to be fast and aim well. The Spray and Pray method can be effective but not consistent. Besides, with the ability to aim at multiple points on a target to do differeing ammounts of damage, do you thing the auto aim is going to go for the sweet spot? My guess is that the programmers did a balancing act on that one to compensate for the ease of auto aim by not allowing the aim to hit the high damage areas easily.

I think that the experience of using an analogue controller to play a 3D shooter is more than enough to compensate for the ease of auto aim.
