Getting and iBook/PowerBook

?% | 1

Anybody know where I can get a cheap one? Or does anybody want to buy me one? *flutters eyelashes and puppy dog eyes* I need a laptop and finances just won't allow for the full on thing from Apple or the $20 cheaper ones at the AUTHORIZED RESELLERS with the LOWEST PRICES ANYWHERE. What really gets me is that they have refurbished ones that are almost as expenive as the new ones which just doesn't help anyone.

Anyway, just curious if you knew of any good creative places to look.

Re: Getting and iBook/PowerBook

Well, keep in mind that an iBook that has aged a bit isn't all that bad. Older macs still rock the computer world well enough to consider usable, and if you're curious, you could always install something like Gentoo, or another distribution like Yelllow Dog.

Anyway, you might want to look for a slightly older g4 and it should handle your needs as a laptop. And really what's the difference between the newer and older Macs, they are all stout, and unlike PC's they are built to last longer and harder.

I should be ashamed of myself.

The biggest problem with buying a used Mac is that everybody seems to think that thiers is worth only 200 or 300 less than a brand new one so my thinking is that if I'm going to spend the money, then I'll get a new one.

And I must agree with you on the built to last statement. We have a print server thaat runs 3 laser printers and a RIP station (For printing neg for plates) that is 10 years old and hasn't crashed once in the time I've been working here. Oh, and it's been on the entire 4 years too save for any random power outages to the building.
