Out of boredom the other day, I decided to finish the rest of my Fullmetal Alchemist episodes. Oddly enough, I had paused right where everything starts coming to a close, and as a consequince, when I finally started watching them again I couldn't stop. At least, not until fatigue overpowered me and I layed down to a restful nights sleep (my first I've had in almost 2 months; I actually dreamt!).
When I woke up, the fist thing on my priority list was to finish my remaining 3 episodes. What I got in that 1 and a half hour of programming was the biggest emotional rollercoaster I've ever experienced.
Particularly with a character named lust. (slight spoiler)
She is a paradigm amongst the creatures known as homonculi. Not only was she beatiful, but she had something that the other homonculi didn't:
Memories.
A homonculus is created with a failed attempt at a human reincarnation using alchemy, and being what they are, they aren't the person they were born from. They don't have a soul, and all they want is to get one. Lust was the truest to those desires, but like the rest was controlled by "that person". She was sent to do That Persons bidding, and over time realized she'd never be compensated, and in a moment of weakness, stirred up a billion different feelings in me...
If she doesn't have a soul, why does she have the feelings and thoughts that she has? How does she have memories? Of course, all too many questions arise, and in short order, she's gone. In the span of one episode, she became one of my favourite characters.
Anyway, this is quite possibly the most beautiful series I have ever seen. Not only does the show make me like every single character and give all of them depth, but it made everyone out to be good...
(Actually, now that I think of it, the only one to not receive depth was gluttony) I've dropped a few names would be similar to the seven sins, so I must explain. At any given time, it would seem that only 7 homonculi roam the earth (their earth), each of them is named after one of the 7 sins (seeing as how human alchemy is a sin).
Anyway, I could not dare to let you in on my secret without intent to share:
For the show, you will need bittorrent. Install bittorrent and double click on the file you are linked to by "The Show". :]
I should be ashamed of myself.

Just finished the series myself and I second what you said.. it is one of the best anime series I have seen.
I have heard huge rants, and seen countless fan art of the characters in the series but up until I saw the series (which I started a week ago and finished watching 51 episodes just a few minutes back), I too felt completely addicted to it.
It's not like your usual cartoons, where everyone lives and theres a happy ever after, but more so in a completely different light, with 3 Dimensional characters with both the heroes and villians of the story, just like you said.
Above all, it had a serious undertone to the story and to who ever it is that enjoys a good adventure, this is certainly one of my top reconmendations to anyone. Anime fans or not - this is really something to watch ;)
Cheers Aynjell and fellow FMA fan ;)
