MelMel's first music festival

74% | 2

That's right, i lived out every teenagers dream: attending a music festival. the biggest music festival in Melbourne is Big Day Out. And it was good. I "rocked out" and did all those things i'm supposed to. AND: i didn't have to spend any money on pot thanks to simply being able to "passively" smoke it thanks to all those around me.

in other news... i seem to have henna'd my left breast to say "SEXY". Hrmmm... i really have no idea why, it's very unlike me. i'm going to blame the passive pot.

I moshed like i've never moshed before to Melbourne-girl-ramonesque band The Spazzys. I vaguely moved around to Evermore, whom i have fallen in love with. I managed to get about 4m away from Powderfinger who were definite highlights for me. (their guitarist is the most beautiful man i've ever laid eyes upon in real life). i sonrted with glee and laughter at the antics of the Beastie Boys.

It was good.

I felt normal.

I'm going again next year.

Music festivals can do that kind of stuff to you. It's perfectly normal. :-)

How about this one? Its the famous Denish Roskilde Festival from June 30th to July 3rd this year. Its the most amazing thing I've experienced concert/festival wise. A MUST for any music lover in range of 5000 miles around it! This year they're featuring the legendary Black Sabbath with Ozzy as frontman again, the original lineup reunited just for this one concert! Also Greenday is said to play this year. So... if anyone is planning to go there... gimme a call... may be I'm coming along!

After decades of construction my website is finally up an running: www.kkds.de

Woha, I didn't realize this guy was in shape to ever enter a stage again. Impressive.

Ozzy

Impressive.

I don't know what they feed him before the show, but when he's on stage he kicks ass.

I personally suggest you to give this one a try. It's one of the biggest music festivals in Europe, taking place in/nearby Budapest, Hungaria. I hope I'm getting a chance to go there this year, but it depends on the bands coming and also if I'm even able to organize that all properly, cause I definitly want to go to Summer Breeze 2005, which is my personal favorite.

Whoah.
Currently I can't say much more than the program is... fucking impressive.
If there was a NAO meeting in Hungary, who would like / be able to join?

Well, me, of course. And maybe my beloved one (if she ever DOES register herself at NAO .. but I'm in good hopes about that :D).
Depends on the bands coming (esp. Metal) and how I can organize our travel back and right to another festival.
But I surely dont want to miss it! ;)

and how I can organize our travel

Yeah, that's my primary concern, too. Budapest isn't exactly around the corner. :-)
Getting there by car or train would be possible, altho it would take almost a whole day. Swiss Railways would want CHF 200 (about EUR 125), Austrian Railways cost about the same.
The guys from Germanwings say they'd fly us from Stuttgart to Budapest for about €120 each in about 80 minutes, so I suggest we forget the railways unless somebody comes up with a better offer. From our place to Stuttgart it's about 250km, most of which on German motorways. (Any infos about the quality of those roads?)

Given the current state of affairs, who would be interested to spend a few days in Hungary with a bunch of fellow NAOees?

I for one can't say I'll be there for sure, but I'm definitely interested.

Sorry, but what's so special about it?
I'm not really interested in watching theatres, sport events and poetry slams during a music festival. And concerning the line-up, there isn't one yet, so...???
Anyway, I think I prefer the better known festivals in Germany and Switzerland.

Try Google. Try 200.000 visitors PER DAY. Try lowest aggression rate and best get-together feeling beside totally different music styles. Try niceties like for-free-loading of your mobile phone - one hour later you come back and it's fully loaded (only if you got your passport with you). Proper security folks. A wagonload of concerts. Etc. etc.

Or simply try one of these reports:

Sziget-ized NAOis

Hi there,

once again some notes about this festival: the friend I know this event from has recently told me he's trying to go both on that and the Summer Breeze festival. Hope we (me + my beloved one) manage it to get it the same way! ;)

Anybody else still interested in

BTW: @ any NAOis able to speak German: try out billigflieger.de - a very well-done, proper site for looking up multiple, low-priced flight opportunities.

Found this one while I was looking some stuff up for my mom cause she didnt want to travel by train anymore, thanks to them assholes of the Bahn AG doing all to execrate their customers away. Examples for this are: not turning on the heating in winter (BOTH fro' and to Munich - Bielefeld), awful long delays (> 30 minutes), etc. etc.

So: stay away from German trains - they (except maybe in Karlsruhe) suck like hell!

Re: Sziget-ized NAOis

I'm not sure what it is but I think I'm still interested. :-)

I've talked to a few friends. One of them has family in Budapest and says he knows how to
a) find one's way around the city,
b) a little bit of the language and
c) how to bribe cops. :-)

So far everybody agrees that flying is the only acceptable option for getting there.

The biggest (and only) problem is time. Said resource may not be available in sufficient amounts while Sziget takes place. If I/we join, it'll be at very short notice... which in turn may mean there's no available flight anymore. We'll have to wait and see.

Dude. I went to the Miami Winter Music Festival a few years back... and had a few strange experiences. I was definitely enraptured with the cute guy doing yoga on the beach, and with the beautiful vibe he had going on; but I quickly got lost in the festivities and had my last experience with X.

My system is way too freakin' sensitive, and I took a whole White Buddha. Apparently it was cut with somethin' else. It was a very bizarre experience, complete with petit mal seizures...

BUT, the good thing was all the new friends I met who stopped a golf cart loaded with beer from rolling over my temporarily paralyzed legs, and went for fruit juice, as well as rubbing my back, and holding my hand. People kept quietly telling me not to yell, and to touch the ground with my forehead when I wasn't vomiting. They held my hand and smoothed my hair.

Apparently they left for a moment, and during that moment some dude decided it was the right time to make out with me...

I came 'to' with my lips stuck on a strangers. I crossed my eyes to look down my nose at the view of my lips stuck to his... Only time in my life that has happened. Really. NO. Really. ;P

After all of that we bonded and hung out at Denny's for breakfast. Yes, the Denny's in oh-so-then-very-hip-Miami Beach. Tagged along for a few parties after that, but stayed sober and drank water.

We went the next day to a club on the third floor of a building where my friends had an olive oil wrestling match wearing bikini bottoms in a kiddie swimming pool. When we got to the top of the stairs to meet more friends... my friend 'Moon' was with us, and her other friend busted out with: "Heeeey!!!! Moon's over Miami!" *snorts*

I would love to go to one of those again and NOT do X. I would love to just listen to the music, look at art, and hang out with cool people. So, rather than just Techno, this music festival that ginsterbusch is talking about sounds bitch. 1,000 programs and over 60 venues with rock, hip-hop, trance, blues, jazz, and classical, as well as art venues, literary venues and children's programs...

Uh, yeah, null, I think I'd love to go to with my sweetie (if he gets his act together)... ESPECIALLY if the NAO has a coalition going... That would be too cool.

I just wonder if I could get the time off of work. We'll see.

Thanks MelMel for letting us know about your henna tattoo... sounds like you had a blast. ;P
