Reading andromacha's journal

Okay, I am a little ashamed asking you guys this, but I really need someone to correct this crap of mine :P It's a Textarbeit I need to turn in by Wednesday. Don't expect anything interesting, because it is one of the most boring things I have ever had to write about, but fortunately it is not very long (unless I add some more later if I realize it's not long enough, but for now this is it).

I don't even know how many stupid mistakes I have made. I tried to reread it, but it is hard to find mistakes, especially in German. Plus today my brain is totally baked, considering that I don't remember if you put an -s or an -n at the plural genitive of a word ;)

Anyway, here it goes. Feel free to laugh at me, as long as you help me out correcting this piece of ahem art.

Ich habe eine seltsame Beziehung zur Zeit: manchmal verschwende ich es, aber ofter spare ich es.
Normalarweise wache ich mich um 8.00 Uhr auf, und die Sache, die ich zuerst mache, ist meine E-mails lesen. Ich verschwende Zeit um E-mails zu schreiben, und danach frühstücke um 9.30 oder 10.00 Uhr.

Wenn ich keinen Unterricht früh am Morgen habe, lerne ich gern für meine Prüfunge. Regelmäβig finde ich, dass mein Tag oft langsam ist. Nach meinem Unterricht gehe ich zu Hause, und surfe ich im Internet. Ich besuche mein Lieblingsforum, wo ich viele Nachrichte meiner Freunden lesen und antworten kann.

Der Abend vergeht immer zu schnell: das ist der Zeitraum ich mit meinem Freund reden kann, weil ich einen groβen Zeitunterschied mit ihm habe. Wir telefonieren regelmäβig für eine Stunde pro Tag, bevor ich ins Bett gehe.

Ich mag nicht Zeit verschwenden, so versuche ich immer meinen Tag zu veranstalten. Ich studiere normalarweise morgens, denn ich habe Zeit am Nachmittag oder am Abend um meine Lieblingssachen zu tun. Daran denke ich dass es eine gute Methode ist um Zeit zu sparen.

Brrr... I wonder how many mistakes I made. I can tell you that I am already ashamed of it. Bash me to death though... a public fustigation might help me um mein Deutsch zu verbessern! ;)

Wow, I never realized exactly how difficult our language is. :-)

Here we go, my corrections in bold, my .02 in italics. I hope I'll get everything right. :-)

* Neue Rechtschreibung: the first letter after a colon should be a capital.
* Zeit is female, so it's "sie" instead of "es".

* The "gern" suggests that you like studying. If you just want to say that that's what you usually do, "oft" or "normalerweise" would be a better choice.
* I'm not sure what you want to say with "dass mein Tag oft langsam ist". Does it pass slowly? In that case I'd write "dass mein Tag langsam vergeht". The "oft" looks a bit superfluous in that sentence.

You could also write "...bevor ich zu Bett gehe." That's a set phrase stating that you go to sleep, while "ins Bett" could also mean you 'just' walk to your bed and lay on top of it. People will understand you in either case tho. I believe there's a difference in formal (written) and colloquial German. German people, what do you say?

Ich mag nicht Zeit verschwenden, deshalb versuche ich immer meinen Tag zu veranstalten. Ich studiere normalerweise morgens, dann habe ich Zeit um am Nachmittag oder am Abend um meine Lieblingssachen zu tun. Daran denke ich dass es eine gute Methode ist um Zeit zu sparen.

* "Ich mag nicht Zeit verschwenden" sounds a little unusual to me. I would write "Ich verschwende ungern Zeit".
* "deshalb" means "that's why" in this case.
* I think you mean "...meinen Tag zu planen". "Veranstalten" usually refers to an event or something alike.

My God what a holy mess!! Actually, I was expecting much worse :P But in fact I made mistakes that I knew I would have made, because I wasn't sure about a bunch of things :D

At least Mrs. Hitler won't yell at me!

Btw. I knew about the umlaut on the comparative of oft :P I just forgot to copy it from word ;)

No, she's not called Hitler... I mean, that's not her real last name. But we love to call her that, because that's how she is. She frightens all her students, even if probably that is not even her intention.

The best part is when you make a mistake, especially in those wonderful Nebensaetze with the inversion, she calls you "My love, you can't make this mistake, because WE HAVE DISCUSSED IT 100 TIMES!!!!"

Also, she has this weird idea of making our pronunciation almost without an accent, so everytime she makes us read aloud after we have underlined all the betonte Silben (right now I can't think of the English for that :P) and whenever we make a mistake in reading she snaps at us as if we had just killed somebody!

I can tell that after I have 2 hours with her I am totally stressed. And figure that every now and then she wants us to relax for 10 minutes during her class; so she switches off the light, make us assume a relaxed position and intonate mantras. Today she proposed Shalom, Shanti, Liebe. Don't you think that she's a little nuts?!

Definitely! I don't know how I'd be supposed to bear this woman for much longer then an hour ;)
But I'm sure everyone of your class hates her, so... ;)
