I scratched my head as I looked at the displays at Fowler.
"How much do you want for the 17" NEC?"
He prattled off clicking his tongue as he searched for the price.
"410 dollars."
In response all he got was a blank stare and a hasty 'never mind'. On my way home I realized that I liked LCD's way more than CRT and what's more, the monitor I had offered nothing that a CRT should offer in the way of performance gain. For some reason, the damned thing refused to display aynthing besides 1024x768 or 1280x1024 and because of the low refresh rate that came with the 1280x1024, I felt trapped by shitty hardware. I decided I needed a replacement...
After I got home, the first and last place I decided to shop from then on was newegg, and so far after spending 290 dollars on this, they haven't let me down (40 was for overnight delivery and rush processing).
This thing is absolutely awesome. In fact, the only thing bad is that I haven't decided whether or not it's a bit bright coming out of the box (easily changed, in fact I did while I typed). The backlight does it's job and I daresay enriches colours much more than any CRT. I guess this could be because my first computer was a a laptop, but I still like LCD's better. Anyway, the light lets me play in the dark and in the daytime and enriches colour and allows you to configure it. In otherwords, it does everything it has to do without imposing itself.
Next up, the resolutions. In fact, after reading up on this beaty, I chose this over an eqaully priced sony due to it's Mitsubishi namesake and more importantly, wide range of resolutions. All the basics (640x480, 800x600, 1024x768) and a few others that laptops would probably give me. Anyway, the other cool thing is that the auto settings deally built in actually works. I start a game at 1280x1024 and for whatever reason it doesn't display right, before I can get my finger to the button the monitor corrects it. So far, I haven't had any issues with the screen interpolating down either! :D
Crispness, quality. Whoever said you couldn't game on one was reading stat sheets, because they obviously haven't played any of the latest games on one. So far my gaming experience has been way better on this LCD and on my laptop's LCD than it has been on any CRT. Anyway, I've made my choice: Never again will I use CRT on a gaming system.
Lastly, I have a small desk. You can imagine how much space is gained by moving to an LCD.
Also worth noting: No dead pixels and the display arrived in perfect condition. Go newegg!
I should be ashamed of myself.

Looks like I'm about to buy a second one. That'd be nice. I tried to go dual monitor and decided it was awesome, but my current monitor sucks something fierce. So I'll get second LCD. This has to be the best LCD for under 300. No Ghosting, great color range, and awesome resolution handling. To get anything else would be something just short of sin...
I should be ashamed of myself.
Well, I ordered the second one and I'm assuming it'd be in by tommorrow morning. I've found that I usually use the second monitor to hold tutorials, my media player, my IM clients as well as movies. It's basically a secondary plot of real estate while I got the first one full screened while I'm gaming or whatnot.
It's surprising how much it helps and makes your multitasking easier. I reccomend it!

And we should care about your second LCD because?
Some of us have lives and can't afford stuff like this. Haha, do you really think I wanna read about how another geek has all the toys he could ever dream of and is buying more, just because it's cool?
**not intended as an insult**, just asking why anyone cares. I'm willing to take a couple of reds for this. I bet there were others who were thinking the same thing anyway.
You mean somebody was actually reading the hardware forums? Wierd. I hadn't ever gotten a fucking reply and the first one I DO get is from somebody who is supposed to be my freind being a total douche-bag? Wierd...
Anyway, yes, I am buying everything I want. Unlike you, I chose loneliness and a lack of freinds, a car, and food, over having a family and living a normal life. Sorry if I offended you, but really, you came off as a douche bag. My total hermitage allows me to have what I want by sacrifcing the things that otherwise mean nothing to me. Sorry to hear you are generally displeased with what is for me, good furtune...
Fuck-head.

Yes we are, once we get passed the "sup faggot, fucktard, asshole face, how's it been going?" we are really good friends deep down! We abuse each other constantly and it's so much fun. Aynjell I'm still upset that you didn't like Colony 5, they are like my favorite band right now! Anyway I'll get over it.
So how's the new LCD?
And we should care about your second LCD because?
With all due courtesy, I think he does have a point here. The review was nice but stuff which is not of general interest should go to the journal. And the
Fuck-head
was a bit over the top IMNSHO.

I'm thinking of buying one now because my monitor's going. The one I was looking at was also 17" but a hundred more. But firingsquad absolutely raved about it so I feel it's a sure bet. NEC 1770NX, I think it's on newegg.

Well, the one I have two of is extremely solid and I am very wierd about hardware. I'm the type of guy that'd buy something and not take it back even if I didn't like it. And I'm also the type to use something only if I like it. These monitors have been on my desk and will stay there for quite some time, they are freaking awesome. For only 260 a peice, it's a steal. I couldn't imagine anything better, unless it had a DVI connecter. ;0

I've found that I enjoy dual monitors in linux more than I do in windows. Not only do the linux desktop softwares more supportive, but in linux everything's more responsive... and what is the use of all that screen space if everything isn't really fast? I mean, multitasking isn't multitasking if doing more than one task slows you down, and multitasking is the primary reason for multiple screens.
Plus you can have different wallpapers on the two screens and or span one in linux, making it look much better. Plus, various toolbars and plugins make for even more fun. :)
