Reading Rating Complaints

I don't really know what people's ratings are based on; therefore, I am wondering why mine keep going down. I believe I used to have a white star by my name, now I only have 3 orange ones. Not that this bothers me, I mean, that doesn't really show what how good your posts are, but I was just wondering...

It's sort of an odd quirk that when someone leaves for a while their rank stays the same, until they come back and login again, when the rank re-adjusts. A lot of the ranking is dependent on how active a user has been recently, as opposed to simply overall.
