Reading Hardware

Aynjell *** posts about...

MSI Neo4 Platinum SLI

Yep, I caught the bug a bit fast and I'm after my next upgrade. So, where am I headed? The land of 939 pins, my freind!

Due to MSI's awesome SLI board, and the inclusion of on board hardware rendered sound (Sound Blaster!), I can't help myself. I just can't! Well, I've decided I need to sell the current rig, so you'll see it in the classifieds.

Anyway, this board is awesome! First and foremost, 939. Yeah, let that sink in for a bit. I'll finally have an SLI ready system, with hardware rendered sound, and well, I think this board is something I've dreamed of. I'm not quite sure if I've even waken!

Anyway the setup I'm estimating I'll have is:

AMD 3500+ (939)
MSI Neo4 Platinum SLI
MSI nVidia 6800GT (256MB, PCI-Express)
1 GB DDR DIMM Dual Channel (2x512)
300 GB of hard disk space (150 for windows, 150 for linux)

All of that housed in this.

Yeah, the upgrade is going to cost me 900 dollars. Well, I figure I can get about 300 for selling my system at the very least. I'd hope for more, but hell, since I won't be using the parts I'd settle for almost anything to help put some money in the bank after this.

I should be ashamed of myself.

Re: MSI Neo4 Platinum SLI

Wow that case is something huge!! I don't think I have ever seen something like that before to be honest... probably because I am still in the dinosaurs age with my computer looking like a Nokia 7210 :P

I am not such an expert about microprocessors and such, but I know enough to survive nowadays. Amd is a good one for a tower pc... I am the only poor one who has to deal with a PIII 800 I guess :( It really sucks, but I can't say anything, as my dad is the one who decides what to buy (well and besides this computer was quite cool when we bought it, in 1915 ;) )

Aynjell, with your post you made me feel like scream "I want the laptop I was promised!!". I need it so bad, because otherwise everytime I need to do something at the university I have to use the old pen and paper, and work on it when I get home (which makes me do the same thing twice, and thus lose time).

Furthermore I am surrounded by people who has cool computers as well. My cousin and his family (they are in 4 in the house) own 6 darn computers: 3 laptops and 3 towers. And I have only one, and have to share it with my dad... what a tragedy! I think your post woke up my sought for the laptop which was promised me more than a year ago ;) Hopefully soon you'll read a post about my "new laptop" kinda thing. Keep your fingers crossed, and in the meanwhile enjoy your "beast". :)

If anyone is interested, this is what I will have running by the end of the quarter (though, minus a video card, most likely).

As is customary, I'm naming it after a female, Sienna. :D

I should be ashamed of myself.

Aynjell *** feels excited about...

SLI Baby! Wahoo!

MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum SLI is my fantasy. Thankfully, I'm going to make it my reality. But, seeing as how if I don't get the best now, I will never be able to afford it again...

Tower:
MSI K8n Neo4 Platinum SLI
eVGA 6800GT SLI x 2
Socket 939 AMD64 4000+
Kingston ValueRAM (512MB PC3200) x 2
LG 16X DVD-+ Burner (Multi format)
WD 1600JB (160GB, 8MB, 7200RPM) x 2
Thermaltake VA3000
Enermax 535w Dual Rail PSU

Cooling:
Vantec RAM Heat Spreaders x 2
Freezer 64 CPU Cooler
Arctic Silver 5

Peripherals:
NEC/Mitsubish 17" Accusync LCD
Altec Lansing 5.1 Sidefiring System (80 Watt)

And yes, I'm getting it. Not sure about the case anymore. It was only 110 but now it's 120 and supposedly it's on sale? Hrm... Warrants a tad bit more research. Anyway, there is no lurking parole officer, it's just me and my money. God this is so exciting.

I should be ashamed of myself.

Case change...

In my recent SLI revelation, I also realized that a better cooling solution was neccessary.

This, would surely help!

With 2 120mm fans, 1 in the front, 1 in the rear, and 3 other 80mm fans that have been proven to help with the CPU and video card's temp, plus a wild look, I've found my match. :D

I should be ashamed of myself.
