1. This summer, as those of you who read my journal here already know, I will be teaching Japanese at an immersion camp. The camp is part of a system of foreign language camps, all of which are cleverly named something along the lines of "Lake of the Woods"– Lac du Bois, Sen Lin Hu, El Lago del Bosque, etc. Anyway, partway through the summer the camps hold an International Day where the kids have a model UN and debates and celebrate world cultures and so forth. This year's theme is "Creating Cultures of Peace." I was thinking it would be cool if I could gather mail from around the world, sooo...
Would anyone be willing to send postcards/letters from wherever they are at present? Since this site is kind of a symbolic and (somewhat, usually) peaceful sort of subculture? I'm hesitant to post my name and summer mailing addy on the internet, but if you reply to this thread or e-mail me, I'd send it to you. North American responses would be just as appreciated as international ones. Anything written in both English and a foreign language would rock. Anyone who writes to me will get a handwritten reply. (Gee, what an incentive, huh?)
2. Cheap ploy for summertime snail mail aside (can you tell I'm going to get very internet-deprived during that time?), I am also looking for a beta-reader/readers. Some friends and I are writing a book, so we are looking for a test audience. The three main characters are a young American male and a pair of antagonistic male Japanese twins. Setting is Tokyo. You don't need to be a native speaker of English– we're looking for content/style, not grammar or spelling. I'm not asking anyone to read an entire book, as we are far from done; right now I'd like constructive criticism on about 4 chapters. E-mail me, reply to this thread, or better still, go here. I'd prefer someone/someones I've interacted with on NAO in the past, because of the trust issues involved with sending my unpublished work out.
Advance thanks on both topics!

null *** (12) throws in his two cents...
1. Is the address I've got still valid, and what kind of text would you expect (hello, I am xxx / today it's raining and we were shopping / our country is famous for watches & cheese / this is a picture of me with a <car/animal/drink typical for my country> / ...)?
2. I'm curious, but currently too busy to promise a reaction within a reasonable time (let alone guarantee that it's constructive), so it'd probably be unfair for me to apply for the job. But in case there's an unexpected shortage of readers, feel free to send me the link, if only to satisfy my curiosity :-)

1. The address you have is my home address. I will send the camp's address to you by e-mail. Anything you want to write is fine, but whatever you include in German (or any other language you speak) please make basic enough for someone who is learning German at the high school level. Just things about your life, favorite things to do, what makes your country unique, whatever. I won't be able to read it, but the Waldsee staff will, so nothing inappropriate! ;)
2. If you're just curious, I can send you the first chapter along with my summer address. And then you can read it or not read it at your leisure.
Thank you!!

Hmm, so basically you want a self-centered ego trip letter explaining why everything I like is great. Can do. :-D

Ooh, that would be, like, nice!

I'd be happy to send a card and even read your work.
If you're ok with it, send me adress to the e-mail in my contact info...
I just hope snail mail is fast enough so you recive the card in a resonable amount of time(I'm sending it from Serbia).

Rachel,
I see I'm late for the party, but if you are still looking for letters, send me your address and I will check if I'm still capable of handwriting.

Null, Vladimir, Jaz, harold_maude, thank you for offering to write! I haven't had a chance yet to e-mail out my address, but I will try to do that within the week.
I'll be at camp from June 5- July 17, so there is no rush.
Expect e-mail soon, and thanks again.

Well, I was thinking I'd write you too actually. But I warn you, I would really love to send you a postcard/letter from Italy, but I won't be here in July. In fact I will be in SC with Hawkeye. So either expect a postcard from SC or maybe I can ask my parents to mail you the postcard I will previously write and put a stamp on. Afterall we have the mailbox right on the opposite side of the street :) Yes, maybe I'll do so... and who knows, I might just send you two postcards from two different places :)

This implies you didn't get the looong e-mail I sent you before I left. And would also explain why you sent a postcard to my home address.
Well, in any case, thank you! 'Tis a very lovely postcard, and made me quite envious of you and Orchid and your fabulous-looking vacation.
I will try e-mailing you again at some point here... hopefully with more success.

I'm afraid not. :-( Do you think you could send it again? That would be nice. :-)

I can only guess that your message was caught in an overzealous spam filter. Unfortunately I get so much spam that it's just not possible to scan the Junk mailbox for false positives every day. I'm sorry and you're on my whitelist now.

Hey there girlfriend. I'm an asshole. I sent no postcards. I should be spanked repeatedly. But I did send you an email the other day, that the 'Mailer-Daemon' promptly sent back....it was to the 'other' address. Anyway, I just missed your presence, and wondered how life at the lakes was...and what you were up to now that that has come to a close? Miss you, and wish ya wuz here... Please come back! I miss reading your stuff...tell me all about the geese flying south, and life in Minnesota. I've never been there...I'm curious.
I'm just a lazybones who doesn't send much mail.:-(
