I want it! I need it! Give me a vokalische R, please!! Is there a German native speaker out there who can lend it to me? Not for very long, really. I just need to record a stupid tape, and this is really getting me frustrated. When I try my best to make that weird sound, all I can come up with is the French horrid R.

How do you make it? Where is its Artikulationsort? I need to know... It's the only way I can pass this idiot exam. I must record a good tape, because I passed the written exam with the minimum grade (I hate phonology in general), and in order to maintain it, I have to bring a good tape at the exam.

So, is there a way someone can lend me his/her R a second? How can we do that? I will give it back, I promise. People here think already that I am nuts, especially my parents, because they see me articulating my Rs in front of the mirror, and they have already jumped to the conclusion that this German is driving me nuts, and that they should have imposed themselves for me to choose Japanese or Chinese or God only knows what.

Aber Deutsch ist eine gute Sprache :)
I need to know how to make this interesting sound, before I am driven totally crazy. Please, I am desperate... is anybody out there who has suggestions?

Oh and Jaz... I would suggest to add a "desperate" in the post types ;) That is more or less the mood of this post of mine in fact.

Alas, unfortunately, I have no 'R' sounds to loan... I wish I did. I understand your desperation, because for years I have not been able to make the 'r' sound in Spanish.

I hope fervently that someone soon loans you an 'r'.

You mean that rolling 'R' the folks of Rammstein prefer? Why not try learning it by listening to 'em? Alternatively try speaking Klingon, as they use similar sounds (diphtongs and such). ;)
