I must find Venezia... I must, I must...

93% | 2

Okay. So now that I am back to work, and healthy... I have been cleaning my house. While doing that, I found several old bottles of perfume. One was the Italian designer Laura Biagiotti's floral-oriental scent for women... VENEZIA.

I had forgotten how much I loooooove it. The last bottle I bought was, I think, back in 1996. I haven't used it since then, but saw it in Venice when I was there in 2002. For some dumb, inexplicable reason... I did not buy any.

It has been discontinued for sure in the States, but I don't know about whether it has been discontinued in Italy... and I want a bottle. Badly. It isn't to be had anywhere on the internet that I can find. It's gone. The only thing out there is Venezia Pastello... which is a powdery version of this yummy fragrance, and not exactly what I want.

It is rich with wong-shi blossom (a gardenia-like flower), Indian mango, black currant bud, rose, geranium, prune, osmanthus, jasmine, iris, ylang-ylang, cedarwood, ambergris, vanilla, civet, sandalwood, musk, and tonka bean... I seem to fall in love with anything that has black currant bud, ylang-ylang, jasmine and ambergris in it...scents that I gravitated to in the past decade have actually all contained the essence of this scent. It has so many good memories attached to it as well...

I've been wearing it, what I have left, and women and men are oohing and aahing over it, right and left. I had one woman grab me, and say: 'My god, what are you wearing? It's fantastic!!!!" Shanghai smells a little like it, but it is not as subtle. And I'm going for subtle, and long-lasting, with a rich, texture of fragrance... and that is VENEZIA.

My intent was to use up all of the unused bottles of lush women's fragrances that I have, rather than having to purchase new ones, or... horror of horrors... be reduced to wearing those horrid fruity sprays from Bath and Body Works. Ouch! So, I picked this one... and ...

fell in love all over again...*sighs*

If someone could at least tell me if it still exists in Europe, I would be immensely grateful. It is literally spellbinding. I forgot how so...

I am reminded of a short story from an unfinished posthumous work by the author Italo Calvino called:Under the Jaguar Sun, where a man searches desperately for a woman whom he only knows by her fragrance...he is driven mad with desire.

I forgot that fragrance can do that. Alas... I have only a 1/4 in left in the bottle. I've thought about putting a Help!!! Save me 'some' note in the bottle and setting it adrift on the Mississippi, but....

I know I am shameless in my pursuit of a fleeting fragrance, but I am filled with a longing for the feeling that I have when I wear it... I feel passionate, I feel lush, I feel as if I could hold all of the air in the world inside my lungs. And yes, I AM gushing over a perfume... I am shamelessly filled with desire for it, and it is so overpowering that I can't help it...

Not exactly helping the world on this one, am I? ;P

My mind is made up...not like my bed, which is a mess.

It exists in Europe, especially Italy ;) considering that Laura Biagiotti is Italian, and wonder of wonders is that... I have one bottle myself ;)

I think I wore it once, but I don't like its smell on my skin. I prefer Hilfiger's perfumes ;) or Dior's or the lavender essence that was given me for Christmas by my nephews. In fact I am wearing always that lately. I simply love it.

So if you want to have that Venezia thing... just wait until I am in America, and I will send it over :)

I would be so beholden to you.... as if I were already not... :) for being such a cool friend.

I love this perfume... I feel like I am 22 again... back before all the really bad shit happened. And it smells so awesome!

I knew I should have bought some while I was in Venice. Damn!

Nothing wrong with going ga ga over a great perfume. It's like chocolate for your skin and senses.

*smiling*

a great perfume is sometimes the only and best make-up a girl needs to wear.

Ehem. And men. ;P

I for instance prefer acetous scents, like Axe Alaska (being in use for more than 8 years now) and several other not so strong stuff (I eg. dislike all other Axe brands).

Yes your absoulty right about the same being true for men.

It's been years since I bought perfume, but the last time I found something that felt good it was a mix of oils, a bit of this and that, peach, vanilla, a bit of pachouli and sandlewood, with just the slightest hint of strawberries...
It would warm and mix on my skin and make me feel like I had laid down in some green fragrant forest...
just a touch at the base of the neck, and a few other select places.
...I miss that...

I have to admit that I rather like some of the Axe fragrances, especially because they're inexpensive and unobtrusive. Any cologne can smell ok if used correctly (spelled "i-n m-o-d-e-r-a-t-i-o-n"), but Axe is just a lot easier on the senses in general

I'll believe in anything if you'll just believe in anything

You know, I really like D&G for men, Paco Rabane, Cartier, and Cool Water. Even some guys smell awesome wearing that 80s Drakkar Noir. Scents for men, if they are right, make me so feisty.

And it, of course, along with my make-up is the only thing I wear at work! Heh.

Saves on laundry.
