I've read Dan Brown, Follet and Grisham... and I like them all, and this does not make them brilliant writers of epic proportions but it does make them one thing- Read. That's more than I can say about my posts. Anyways this isn't a Book forum so I'll move on.
First off I don't believe just because an author minipulates history to tell a story is relevant or irrelevant. If someone reads a mainstream novel about a hidden and secret society and believes it well.... you see where I'm going with this. If it was hidden and secret it wouldn't be mainstream.
Further more even though the United States is all about separating Church and State that doesn't really mean the founding fathers were against the Church. I do believe that you would find the founding fathers to be very religious (if not all a majority) and the case would be the same today in the United States as far as political heads are concerned. But being scientific that's another story.
Oh and you forgot to mention National Treasure...
Final thought....If you happen to rent Skulls 1, 2 or 3 I don't want to see a post implicating George W.
