I'm sure most of you have heard the story of the Illuminati. Whether through Angels and Demons or Metal Gear Solid 2, the Illuminati appears in different forms throughout the media. But have you ever considered if it really existed?

For those of you that don't know, the Illuminati is an organization that is believed to manipulate all political and economical events. But it began as a small science fraternity formed by the famous Galileo and his fellow scholars. They formed it to privately discuss scientific studies that were forbidden by the tyrannous Catholic church.

Illuminati translated means 'those who have been enlightened/Holders of Light'

As time went on and after Galileo passed, the hatred for all things Christian festered, and the once pure intentions of the Illuminati became much darker. It swore to destroy religion and make way for scientific truth to conquer the world. The Illuminati then made its way to France and England where it began to infiltrate the ranks of Freemasonry. As scholars look back now, they believe the organization had just died out after this point.

But in 1776, a very important and peculiar event occured. The thirteen colonies of the United States declared their independence from Britain reign. But what organization were all the signers of the Declaration of Independence involved in? Freemasonry, the same that the Illuminati had polluted years and years prior.

Almost all of the American symbols are ancient markings of the Illuminati. Imagine, what if the forefathers of America were in fact members of the long lost Illuminati?

It's just an idea of mine. But I will conclude with this to make you think:

You have posed some very interesting ideas in this post, but I fear you have a slightly skewed view of what the Illuminati were and/or are. While they did consider themselves the enlightened ones and worked on science which the church had condemned. This does not mean they later turned against the church and sought to destroy it. I believe instead that they continued to work in the shadows of multiple secret societies and used their knowledge of human behavior and political science to instill leaders they felt would help their cause. I also believe that they still exist to this day at the most guarded inner sanctum of these groups and continue to manipulate the political world to their approval.

But see, it's weird though because the history of it is so shady... There's so many different views of what they were/are. Also in 1776, an Adam Weishaupt saught to form a group which began as the 'Ancient and Illuminated Seers of Bavaria'. This later became the 'Illuminati' but was completely different compared to the ancient Illuminati. Weishaupt would talk quite blatantly about his association and what they did. But this Illuminati was supposedly disbanded by the end of the 1800's...

So it's just kinda hard to get the facts straight on the crap because no one, including me, has a clue what they're talking about. So excuse any errors I've made about the history of it. My references are shady at best. I mean, you can't even search Google for Illuminati stuff without getting the dumbest websites in existence.

Yes, I think that this whole thing is ridiculous to say the least. Dan Brown is already known for writing a bunch of crap not even supported by facts, and the "conspiracies" that he uses for his novels are simply idiotic.

I read the Da Vinci code, and I found a lot of historical facts that were totally wrong. It is nice how this guy messes up historical facts to his own taste, even saying that what he says is supported by historical facts.

It made me laugh when he said that in the Ultima Cena (The last dinner), the guy who is close to Jesus is actually Mary Magdalene or someone like that... a woman anyway. When in fact everybody knows that it was John. He was still quite young, and this is why Leonardo didn't depict him with beard and with somewhat gentle facial traits. But of course Dan Brown has to say that it wasn't John, but Mary. I wonder if he has actually seen the picture ;) I know I have seen it three or four times, and I have never had the doubt that John wasn't actually John.
The guy is clearly blasphemous.

I haven't read Angels and Demons (lucky me!), and I don't know much about the Illuminati thing. Though, from what I read in some recensions... well the idea seems once again pretty idiotic to me. I haven't even found any real facts that proves that Galileo Galilei was part of that thing. Granted, he was against the church (he even called the Pope "simplicio" in one of his dialogues; simplicio = simple head, dumb person) but I think that once again his crap is not supported by facts.

I honestly wonder how people can like his novels. He is not even something exceptional. His style I mean... I do prefer Ken Follett and John Grisham to him.
If it were for me, I would keep him from writing such things; they get weird stuff into people's heads (well into the heads of those who are easily influenced) and this cannot do anything good to us.

This is entirely irrelevant, but of all the books I've read I've never been able to finish a John Grisham book. They just seem to go on forever. Maybe it's my immature mentality, but his words have never carried me through his books. I can't put my finger on what is boring about them. I enjoy immense detail, but only relevant detail; perhaps his books have too much irrelevant detail? Or maybe I don't even remember them correctly.

Yes, it might be that. Grisham describes every little thing, even the least relevant ones. I do like his style though. Probably because, studying art and literature stuff, I am sort of used to having to read kinda prolix texts (see all the English literature of the 1700 and 1800 ;) ) and so I don't mind that at all.

To be honest, I do like that style, and all those long descriptions, because I like to stop and just picture what he's saying. Every author has his own way to convey a meaning and a message. I do like Grisham's, but I don't like Brown's. Of course this is just a matter of personal taste. So, yes, in that context my comparison is irrelevant.

Probably Grisham, Follett or Brown are not brilliant authors. People might like one or the other or the three of them, but this doesn't qualify them as brilliant authors, or as "Fathers of literature" or things like that. My judgement is just as good as someone else's, though I think that Brown should definitely change topics :P for his novels. I think that he - not on purpose, or I hope not anyway - puts into people's minds some kind of things which instead of making people reflect in a constructive way (not that Grisham or Follett do, mind you, but at least they don't talk about history and stuff) they make people go nuts about this or that, and believe every single word not supported by facts. I simply hate that. I hate that people commit that mistake, and I hate that there is someone who gets rich out of people stupidity.

Jimi, let me first start by pointing out that I respect your ideas on the subject, but the way I feel about this conspiracy is that it is completely nuts.

I don't think there is enough evidence to believe any of that, which makes this belief more of a religion (or perhaps cult) than any sort of conspiracy. I'm going to have to categorically deny the possibility of that theory being true.

Haha... Dan Brown isn't even what I was posting about. It's just a stupid conspiracy. If the Illuminati really exists or did exist (whatever), no one knows anything about them. You look at every website that comes up on the net for the Illuminati and wonder if it was some 12 year old punk who designed it, freaking out that we're all being manipulated because he read a book.

But, taken for all in all, the crap that people talk about is that the Illuminati infiltrated Freemasonry. And all I was saying is all of America's forefathers were Freemasons. In fact, most of America in the beginning were members in the fraternity. It was a simple idea, just something to make you think. It didn't have a thing to do with Dan Brown.
