I have a quick question...

If you leave an image on a computer monitor, how long will it take till it burns it onto the screen?

We have a Dell monitor.

And I would like a real answer in like hours and minutes.

On modern monitors, screen burn is hardly an issue any more. Of course, if you display a full-screen image that is completely white on the left half and black on the right half and leave the device running for a week, you might notice something.

Yeah, newer monitors are much tougher. I have LCD's and as far as I know, the problem is non existent with a good LCD.

It depends on a variety of factors, such as the age of the monitor, the intensity of the image and other content on the screen.

Screen burn shouldn't appear that fast, even on the common older monitors. You generally have to have an image displayed for around a week before it becomes permenent (as in the Pacman arcade monitors having a permanent maze display.) The later monitors tend to take a few months before screen burn kicks in - and usually there's enough varing content that the screen burn averages out so that it won't be noticable.

Only CRTs are known for screen burning. LCDs and Plasma haven't been identified for doing so (but that doesn't mean they are the best choice - LCDs have dead pixels, while Plasma is expensive.)

There's much more important things to worry about when dealing with monitors. The most common issues can be examined with the Nokia Monitor test.
