Reading charlie's journal

I heard it said again last night.

"I'm not ethnic, I'm white."

Of course it was the retort to:

"Hey girl, eat up. My ethnic meal is getting cold and I ain’t makin' another."

This one was fairly mild, but I hate the idea that we have no identity because we are Caucasian.

Do you ever hear this in Europe? I hope not.

It's such a cop-out. You don't have zero identity. What does you family do? Are they devoutly Catholic, Baptist, Charismatic, Atheist? (is Atheism a religion?) Are you from the East Coast and you know twenty ways to cook crab? Are you a Californian and you have this compulsion to avocados in everything? Is your father a work-a-holic and you hate watching yourself become like him?

Now it's true, some of us white kids have had no parents, no real meals, and nothing but the same crappy life we see everyday on MTV (or in Napoleon Dynamite).

We are missing two or three important components of ethnicity: food, family and quality time. But just because we do absolutely nothing doesn't mean we have no ethnic identity. We can still be unique, even if were born into the majority.

I'm a hacker. I feel at home when I am in front of my computer. I lost my family due to misdeeds at the age of 11, and now am constantly reminded of that which I lack.

I claim no pride in any of the things that would traditionally describe me. White? Psh, I could care less if I was black, white, or green, I didn't pick the colour (I'd have been a bit more pale had I chosen). So I'm not white. American? Ha, I hate this country and about everything it stands for. The supposed freedom that has already been destroyed time and again with laws that enable anyone of such power to take advantage of it ( I don't need to go indepth here ). A Schmitz? Perhas, because my father refused to abandon me. He was a father, even though his misdeeds were similar to mine, he stuch through it with me and made a better life for himself as I did me.

Perhaps, a hacker of the Schmitz bloodline? I can live with that. But white america would get you into a fight with me quicker than anything else (If I had had my way, I'd had stayed in the land of my birth, the only thing good about america is newegg).

Lets see, I'm me. All me. I'm a native to this country, I'm an artist who is an ecclectic eccentric.
My parents were both born in this country, but if you go back far enough we all came from across the Atlantic ocean.
I have an immeiate effect on people, either one way or the other, either they hate me or they like me.

I have a passion for living lightly on the earth because we are only here for a little while and the next group of people who are due to arrive here hopefully will find it still livable.
And I like to get up early and see the sun come up.
I like chocolate and sunsets too.

Is that enough of a definition of who I am?
