Dreamweaver

Ive had a website for a while now online, ive always used the dreamweaver program,
but used a program called terrapin to upload files created and altered in
dreamweaver to the internet, however after a recent hack attack, a backup, format, and
reinstallation of programs was put in the hands of a friend, however hes somehow lost a lot of data, including the terrapin program which when i went to download requires a registration code i cant find.

I was told that terrapin is unnesseccery as i can
upload the files to the net directly from the dreamweaver package, i have spend time wading through a lot of help pages e.T.C and maybe overlooked something, but me being
me im struggling to find out how to do this?

So though theres an outside chance one of you guys have actually done this before and know the answers?

Re: Dreamweaver

This is off topic, but is this your website? It's hilarious.

And, what's up with the Japanese?

Back to the topic at hand:

The internet is a big place. Be a bit more specific and we might be able to help you out.

Where are you uploading these files to? Do you own the server? Do you pay to use it? Who hosts it? ...stuff like that.

Please contiune to vote AND post.

Re: Dreamweaver

Hey,

is this your website? It's hilarious

Haha, no, unfortunatly not, i cant claim credit for that one.

When i say "my" website, i co-run a site called RubbishRecords.co.uk, helping out where i can on the website side, the domain is registered obviously with a company that deals with that and is hosted through them i guess, which is a service paid for.
Terrapin is a seperate program we had functioning as a bridge from us to the net, whereas the webpages and all its files and folders are created through Dreamweaver and saved to the computer, once opening Terrapin you see the files on the server and the duplicate files on the computer, once altering say the front page file and its saved on the computer, you upload it overwriting the one online and that becomes the current.

Apoligies if this doesnt make sense to you, but after the recent format, the terrapin program which connected us to the server is gone but i still have dreamweaver and the site files, so i was told i can use dreamweaver to upload without Terrapins aid. The reason its a bit tricky for me is because i wasnt involved in the initial setup of the site and its infrastructure otherwises id be more clued up.

as for the japanese, i just like the word.

I have dreamweaver ultradev.

Null,
your a genius, nice one man.
This proberly sounds really pathetic, but what do i put in FTP host? is it the name of the server, which is uk2.net? and what do i put in the host directory box? Im guessing ones the domain name and ones the FTP server?

Im nearly there :-)

Youve been a big help.

I know ;-)

Yes :-)

and what do i put in the host directory box?

That's the directory on the server where you store your stuff. It depends on the server configuration and might be /, /html, /web, /www, public_html, or (most likely) something completely different. You'll need to browse around the server, or maybe you can just leave the field blank.

Re: Dreamweaver

It depends on your version of Dreamweaver, but you should somewhere have a button or menu item saying Site Properties or Edit Site. A window should appear where you can click Remote Access or Remote Info (it looks like this in Dreamweaver MX). In the Access dropdown choose whatever access method you use (FTP, RDS, WebDAV, ...), fill in the fields that appear and hit OK. After that you should be able to bring up a file/upload/download manager with F5 or F8.

Good luck!
