How is it that Windows is the 'only' choice in operating systems, i have tried alot of other systems including Red Hat Linux, Sun Solaris and Lindows 4.0 but none of them have any compatibility with my pretty much standard hardware. That does mean that windows is my only option and i am stuck with its crashing, hard-drive burning spasms of 'Gotta load ALL processes at once repeatly over 50 times'
I have also noticed particularily in Windows 98SE (What a curse) that it is always the 'users' fault, for example...
My computer crashes, completely locks up and im forced to switch it off manually, and then you get the rather annoying and useless scandisk popping up during start-up (as if windows isnt slow enough) stating in laymans terms "You didnt shutdown your computer, remember next time otherwise you will fuck it up and now we are going to pointlessly check your hard-drive for errors we probaly wouldnt find anyway!".
I just want to find Bill Gates and punch him.... ah yeah and tell him that Windows Vista (his new creation, codenamed 'Longhorn') is too demanding on system resources.
Thats my rant on windows... any other comments
{Drink is the Answer.... But ive forgotton the question}
Im using a laptop (Dell Inspiron 1200) so changing internal hardware is near enough impossible.
My Specs are:
Intel Celeron M 1.4GHZ Processor
Intel based chipset, audio, video and network card etc...
Phillips DVD/CD-RW Internal Drive
Netgear wireless LAN Card, (I know it wont work with lindows etc)
Thanks for your reply

What is 'lindows etc'? I've been running a GNU/Debian-based distribution on several computers, starting from ages old up to high-end, up-to-date systems and NEVER had a fucking problem with it!
Netgear is state-of-the-art shit, so it should work properly with Linux, too. Please be specific in your accusations, not so itchy-bitchy 'wahaha - it doesnt work!'. First give Knoppix, Kanotix and other Live-CDs a try, then come back, and brag if you want. I've been starting into Linux around 1994 and that WAS a horror - yes! But not TODAY. Today almost fiveteen years have went past since the first version of Linux - the only things which always are making trouble are some bloody software-based win-modems (reduced hardware functionality, most of them have to be re-built using drivers) and ACPI/APM-power saving, and that's mostly a notebook problem.
On this very notebook over which I'm writing this post, power saving is working properl - even better than windumb, cause I aint got the proper drivers, so in windumb, the system doesnt recognize it if I close the notebook - normally it should shut down the LCD screen, but it wont work. On linux, everything works perfect. ;)

Fuck off the 30 seconds posting limit!

yup. linux folks are making an amazing progress.
not only did linux catch up with Unix (an OS with roots in 60's, which linux looked up to), but it also became a leader amongst unix-like systems.
yeah, win-modems, win-mice, win-something is a really cheap move from m$ - this hardware needs to be initialized by windows in order to start working. and it's usually a cheap stuff.
also ms vista is a learning experience taken straight from linux (and friends) - it's going to have more powerful console, they say. it's going to have more versatile and powerful filesystem in the future (answer to reiser4 and spotlight, perhaps).
(when are they going to come with something that's not ripped from somebody else? stupid question :D
IE7 has tabs from opera/firefox, popup blocking from opera/firefox, RSS support from opera/firefox, ...etc etc)
*sigh* such an un-creative company. and they even get paid for it.

So how about now using a seven and a half years old version of Windows then?
ah yeah and tell him that Windows Vista (his new creation, codenamed 'Longhorn') is too demanding on system resources.
When the Longhorn beta came out I ran it on a four years old machine and it ran quite fine.
