I checked the temperature when I woke up today (a wonderful 2pm CST) and it was 65 degrees fahrenheit (18.3 celsius).
Normally I'm not a big fan of the cold. Growing up in Texas I'm used to summers ranging from 90 to 110 degrees fahrenheit, and am quite comfortable in those temperatures. I would always enjoy a good laugh when I heard about heat spells in Europe driving the temperatures into the 90's, only to cease laughing when they shrug off a 50 degree day like it's nothing.
Like I started earlier, even though I'm not a fan of the cold, today marks the first day I can finally pull out my leather jacket and wear it. My lamb-skin leather jacket. If you've never felt lamb skin, lets just say it's one of the softest things I can think of (next to a down comforter, which I need to get my hands on fairly soon). The smell and feel of my jacket just makes me feel good. That all probably sounds womanish, however I love this jacket.
Currently I'm listenign to Wynton Marsalis play Tomasi: Trumpet Concerto (1. Allegro). Somehow this song fits the day very well, would even better if it was snowing.

Our school kids get to go home on days as hot as this.
Heh, here in Turin we would pay to have 18.3 Celsius!! At the moment we are lucky if the mercury of the thermometer gets to that temperature! It's cold here, and it has been raining for days now. Only today it started being slightly sunny. When I woke up this morning, at 8, there were 5 Celsius, and I was freezing. Fortunately now the pale sun is starting to heat the city, and we got as high as 12 Celsius. I still feel cold though, and I do bless the central heating system that warms my apartment with 22 degrees :)
But hey, fall is not so bad afterall. Remember that there are those wonderful chestnuts out now, and you can go in the woods (this is if you live close enough to one) and pick them, and go home and cook them either with their skin on and in a pan, or skinless in some water. They are so yummy! This is my favorite part of fall... oh and as well as mushrooms ;)

My idea is that you laugh also because you know that you have to endure that temperature only for the time you're not at work or at home, since I bet that you do have air conditioning that can cool you off quite easily. But here in Europe, air conditioning is not so common yet (at least in Italy, and in the other parts of Europe I have visited). So, I assure you that being that hot 24/7, and when I say 24/7 I do mean ALWAYS, is not such a great pleasure ;) You should try living without air conditioning, and then tell us if you have no problems in living with the heat, and if you still enjoy a good laugh :P
That is if you have air conditioning of course :D If you don't... well then tell me your secret. I don't have air conditioning at home, and to be honest I proud of that, because we are aware that it pollutes the environment quite a bit, and because I am glad that Italy signed the treaty of Kyoto (just like the whole EU if I am correct, and unlike 25 states of the United States, since Bush didn't sign it and therefore it's not mandatory) to prevent polluting the Earth so bad. So what we do is opening all the windows to create a little winds inside the house, and that can cool us off a little bit.
This doesn't mean to be a harsh post, and I don't want to offend anybody, especially Eljefe or the other American Naooies. However, it makes me laugh that some people can laugh about us being hot, when in fact they would have the same problem if they didn't have air conditioning to prevent it. And air conditioning is bad for the environment, that goes without saying. If you don't believe my words, I think you can easily read some articles about the causes of the violence of the last few hurricanes you had over there.

I do have air conditioning however I've lived without and I didn't find it bad. Coincidentally I also lived without showers during that period so that had some effect on my opinions of that period of time.
The time I refer to is 10 days in the mountains of New Mexico hiking and living out of a back pack. Noteably the mornings were cold, however the afternoons would be scorching with no shade as last time I hiked through I went through the fire damanged areas (ie the wildfires of 2003) that had trees sans any color but black (rather beuitful and depressing at the same time).
How do I do it? Exactly like how you might walk around in 65 degree winds with a shortsleeve shirt on and not feel very cold. Acclamation would be my guess, growing up with a certain range of temperatures.
