MelMel *** has an idea...

Xmas is coming...

100% | 6

So, Xmas/Christmas is coming and i propose we get into the spirit of the event by running the first ever... (drum roll please)

NAO World Wide Kris Kringle!

what's that you say? Christmas is still ages away. well yes, that may be true, however once we decide if there's enough interest to go through with this people need to find gifts and posts them around the globe so that they're sure to arrive by Christmas.

I havent really thought through all the rules but i was thinking something along the lines of:

- Some kind of ranking limit (i dont want random people who havent contributed to the community having my address. no idea what this minimum should be, suggestions all?)
- all those involved must post pictures of their gifts.
- Someone needs to run the thing in terms of distributing names to buyers secretly (god bless email) so the surprise/not being able to demand stuff element stays. so i guess everyone who wants to be involved should email details to whoever wants to run this thing. someone who everyone trusts with their details, if there are no volunteers i'm happy to do it.
- some kind of amount range to spend. and yes we all have different currencies, but we all have access to currency converters so end discussion ;)
- you cannot disclose who you are buying for.

that's about it in my mind, but are people interested in spreading some love across the globe? Share your thoughts!

Sounds like a good idea. Reminds me of the 'secret santa' things offices and school parties do. We could have the event coordinator drop the names of everone that wants to participate into a hat or something and randomly draw who's gonna shop for who. That way, everyone who wants in on the idea is more or less guaranteed to be included in the gift giving experiance.

As for rank limit, I suppose anyone that's been active for the past year and has at least one orange star should be eligable. That way new NAOees that might not have had many posts, but are still community involved will be able to participate and older somewhat trollish NAOees are still open to involvement, too.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean, but I dig the general idea. I think I'll participate, and would like to offer a helping hand in coordinating everything (or maybe writing a mini-website that does everything automatically). The "put all addresses into a virtual hat and let people fish them out by random" approach sounds good to me. If many people with privacy concerns participate, we could add a rule that real-life addresses are only given to people on one's NAO friends list.

On the condition that the Aussies vow not to send Marmite, Vegemite or Promite.

How can you not like promite. For shame. You until i send you some Aussie literature, then you'll true pain. i nkow i'm generalising, but i've come to the conclusion that no australian author should be published. ever.

Oh well, akubras, Fosters, and kangaroos for all!

How about we send pictures of things to people as gifts? It'll be cheaper and we won't have to deal with the currency or mail.

...But even if we decide to use real gifts, count me in.

Kudos to null and the random number-out-of-hat website.

Please contiune to vote AND post.

I'm down with some gift-giving, as long as we maintain the no-vegemite rule. . .

I'll believe in anything if you'll just believe in anything
