Texas' Jewish Cowboy... Why The Hell Not!?

60% | 3

I'm so fucking excited. A candidate worth mentioning for Texas Governor. I know this is definitely not relevant to 99% of you, however I'm happy.

As of late Texas has been declining. And for Texans, this isn't cool because we have intense State Pride (c) (tm) (r). Our public education system SUCKS BALLS. I know, I just graduated from it about 6 months ago. Our teachers are paid significantly well below the national average. To put it simply, a Teacher borders on the poverty line as far as wages go, and not only that they have to pay for most of the materials in the class room outside of a projector and most of the time only a class set of text books. Some schools like mine still manage to pull off a good education despite setbacks, however some schools produce Valedictorians that never took Calculus while others produce Valedictorians that have taken all 3 years of Calculus (essentially everything but Differential Equations).

So along comes this man. A perfect compliment to the stereotypical loud, brash, and bluntly honest Texan. Some key facts:

  • Platform: Anti-Wussification Of Texas

  • Slogan: Why the hell not?

  • Self Description: Jewish cowboy

I love what this guy stands for, improvements to Education, a step back from the Death Penalty express lane, and the development and expansion of enviromentally friendly power sources (spearheaded by Willie Nelson, the biggest hippie of all time).

Best of all: HE'S INDEPENDANT!!

Already he's at 21% in the polls of "likely voters" (mind you 71% of texans didn't vote last time.) which means he stand a good chance as the election is about this time next year.

I will be proud to say my first time participating in the American/Texan democratic system will be a vote for Kinky Freedom.. I mean Friedman :P

Hmmm, I'm browsing his site and I'm not sure I'm ready to jump on the Kinky Band-wagon. His stances on the environment and education, and child healthcare sound good. However, there are other issues I'd like to know more about, like how he would handle medicare/cade in the state as well as what he'd do with such things as the land-control proposition that hit the ballots today.

Also, I'd like to know where he stands on magnet schools and vouchers. He claims his for the revamping of public education, however, aside from falling back on legalized gambling (which is what the state lottery commission was set up for, and thus far I've yet to see how its done the education system any good). And Robin Hood? How would he handle the removal/restructuring/other-altercation of the program?

To me there are just way too many gaps in his platform page to convince me to give him my vote, let alone offer campeign donations, which from what practically every other part of his page focuses on, appears to be his biggest priority right now. Then again, if I were an independant candidate I'd be pretty damn worried about getting financed, too.

Indeed however it must be kept in mind the formal race for the govenor has not started yet.

However as to the other questions I have yet to see anyone else offer any solutions yet so its not like Kinky's behind the bandwagon. Personally I think Robin Hood was a fucking poor idea.

I'm mainly excited we have an independant thats worth considdering. If anything else he can shake things up and get the Democrats and Republicans to get their act together.

I think Robin Hood was mismanaged, however on the other hand I'm probably wouldn't have had a highschool within a half hour drive of where I love were it not for the grants my school got from the program, but that's neither here nor there.

And, no, he isn't behind on the bandwagon when it comes to more specific questions like Robin Hood, however were he to offer one he might be able to gain somewhat of an edge because as two special sessions of the state congress pointed out the Dems and Reps don't have the slightest fucking clue about what to do with it either. And more so to the point I was actually trying to make with this paragraph, when it comes to a candidate running with a party you can at least look at the parties platform and track record to give you a pretty good idea of where said candidate stands on a lot of issues.

Just throwin' in my two cents. Maybe he'll gain alot better momentum closer to votin' time and hopefully he'll have a more sound and fleshed out platform.
