IE7 beta released

60% | 2

According to this blog the beta for Internet Explorer 7 just came out. I could be wrong, but I think it's been at least three years since a new IE came out. Of course this is needed.

The big news: RSS feed aggregation complete with a rendering engine, improved security, and tabbed browsing.

These improvements should have happened a while ago. And of course Microsoft is going more of what they're good at - copying other software features and selling a lot more product. At least the everyday users will get some of the great features the rest of us have been using with Firefox. Too bad they'll be making money off of other people's good ideas - and those people were writing open-source!

Inevitably there will be a debate about IE vs Firefox and the other alternative browsers. Most of the traffic reports I read say about 70% of users are using IE6. So like it or not, this IE will end up being the major browser again.

I haven't had a chance to try it myself yet, but I'll be back when I have. Oh, and just for kicks, have a look at

They, unfortunately, will not allow x64 users to use it, and I'm only in possession of the x64 installation and license. :(

That bit is really clever, but it very well may land Mozilla in a lot of trouble.

I should be ashamed of myself.

Re: IE7 beta released

I've had the chance to look at it. It's got less buttons and more colours, and at least as far as it concerns XHTML and CSS, the rendering engine still sucks ass. In short, it's exactly what I've been expecting :-)

Top ten features of IE7

?% | 1

10. Prettier icons.

9. Tabs.

8. Anti-phisihing measures.

7. RSS feedreader (or at least an orange box with three white lines).

6. Complete lack of keyboard shortcuts.

5. Quick tabs view.

4. Disregard for web standards.

3. Disable/Enable ActiveX settings.

2. Integrated web search bar (wonder where they got that idea).

1. Lack of customizable settings.

In other news, the Find window still gets in the way of the page, and it is still hard to read source info in Notepad.
