Simply said: I'm mainly searching for a job these days and thus dont have much time reading at NAO.

Also: By now I dont seem to have the nerve to read a 10-pages+ post. Dont know why, maybe it's the text desert or something similar, maybe I dont like the style (Georgia's my favorite font), whatever it is ... I'm skimming pages, but not much more. :-/

Naturally, I love Jesus very much. I love him so much that I'd like to crucify him all over again.

Well in my opinion NAO has died, I've all but given up hope here which is why I have not posted anything new (worth reading) since I was in New Orleans in October/November. My rating has dropped to bullshit levels and I just really have nothing to say here anymore, maybe that is the point, I dunno. Force the people that have been with the site since 1998 out because nobody is willing to change anything, sure that's likely the deal. Anyway, time will tell.

The powers that be just never want to change anything to how the users want it to be. We still have a rating system that doesn't work, we have this rank thing that also doesn't work. Nobody really rates posts anymore. There is really nothing left to say.

I could be wrong but I don't think I am.

It works very well, if people stop whining about it and start using it.

Nao is still alive!

Majic, I think you're exaggerating a little bit. I do think that there might be problems in how the site is configured in relation to the people who are involved with it, but I don't think that everything has died already.

I think that the good part about Nao is that it is structured so that users can make the difference. In posting and rating. In giving the chance to those who bring up intelligent posts and discussions to write even more, and to lower the number of contributions to those who limit themselves to say "lol omg Im new here" kinda thing.

The system is good if used properly. And I think that this is what Henning was taking into account to begin with when he started coding the rating system, and the whole thing that keeps this place up and working. But of course we are humans, and we do make mistakes. Maybe it's true: we don't really know how to use the rating system in a fair way. Maybe we like to rate someone up or down based on the kind of relationship we have to that person. I think that such a discussion already came up a couple of years ago.

However, what I am trying to say with this gigantic ramble is that it is in our power to change things. It is in our power to start posting things like we once did. It's not that there is a bunch of braindeads pillaging this site here. It's us. We've been here for ages; we all know each other. This is a good community, and I know we can restore things to what they were before. All it takes is only a little bit of commitment.

I know that people might feel bad in seeing that they write but they are not rated, as if nobody actually cared about what they have to say. I felt the same way too. When I wrote posts which I thought were interesting (because they were to me), and I saw that nobody rated (not even a bad rate for that matter), I really felt bad, because I started thinking that nobody ever gave a shit about what I had to say. But we do have to detach ourselves from that feeling. We have to post, because we still hope for other people to share their ideas. This way we can keep the community alive.

And we do have to rate. Please, try to take this thing seriously. When you come to Nao, I can understand that you cannot read every single post that people have written, but please, those you read, you rate. That's how it should work. I think that's how Jaz imagined this thing. You read & you rate afterwards. It's so easy. That's what I have been doing all along. Because I know that it is bad to feel neglected, or to think that nobody gives a damn about what you think. So please, take this as a task if you cannot help it. But do it.
Thanks to everybody. I do care a great deal about this site, so please let's all help each other in helping this site not to die.

I don't post as much as I once did, due to circumstances that are not quite so changeable right now.

I've noticed that there is a definate ebb and flow to this site, which all things considered is probably normal.

Everything has seasons. And that seems to be the way with this as well.
And it's not a bad thing to go into a time of less, it just means that things are resting is all.

And if everyone stopped posting today, our words would still live on.
The things we've all said and thought about. The people who have passed this way and then moved on.
Thoes things, just like old photographs are wonderful to look over now and again.

There are still people posting, and people who need to come will find their way here, after all everyone who has ever written something here found their way here.

I'm not sure how many collective posts there are, but I'll bet if you took every post written here and put it to hard copy there would be several books worth.
In that light we are a living library of ideas and notions and things to say.
And that rocks when you think about it.

To that end I say as long as I can get to this site even now and again I will continue to write in my journal.
A fine and private, how ever public it is, I know it's an oximoron, site that has given me a place to write.
Sometimes my writing sucks, and sometimes I've had some ok stuff to say.

It's the only journal site I've ever belonged to that I wanted to keep comming back to.
I've found extrodinary orndinary people here who often have resembled charcters in the books I have loved.
And that, all in all is an awesome thing.

So chin up and cheers for the living library called Netalive!

I'm glad this thread has continued on. One way to revive our commmunity is to recognize the 'drought' we are currently experiencing. We must understand that its not necessarily a bad thing. As like depressions- a time of unprecedented wealth usually follows.

And if everyone stopped posting today, our words would still live on.
The things we've all said and thought about. The people who have passed this way and then moved on.

Harold_Maude makes a great point here. I don't know about everyone else, but I make somewhat frequent visits to old (timeless) threads. There are so many 'oldies but goodies' in the NAO vault that should be remembered. Everything from the poetry, philosophy, love and lifesense, music forums (and more)have such grand stuff within. I guess much of it is newer to my eyes since Im still young to the site. If one hasnt taken a trip back in time recently, I propose one does so.

As a time such as that/this, I highly recommend going back and looking at the NAO classics of the YesterYears & if you finding something you like, agree/disagree, or wish to comment on- then do so in a post.

However long we last (hopefully for years & years to come), this site has left a good imprint in my mind which I will always cherish.

Everything has seasons. And that seems to be the way with this as well.

Yes, everything does. Makes me think of the Bryds and their oldie song Turn, Turn, Turn.

To everything - turn, turn, turn
There is a season - turn, turn, turn
And a time for every purpose under heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

Still rings true today. In NAO's sense- the song could go:

A time to post, a time to not post
A time to read, a time to write
A time to be vacant, a time to be full
A time to be an Einstien, a time to be a Neanderthal

I swear it's not too late!

It could just be a collective writers block as Salvial_Ten stated. As they say- All Great Minds Think Alike- the only problem is that were all just 'tabula rasa' at the same time. No worries, we will pull through.

So chin up and cheers for the living library called Netalive!

Amen to that.

Now are ye undeceived! Welcome, again, my children, to the communion of your race!

My rating has dropped to bullshit levels

Hey, your "bullshit levels" are about the same as my normal levels. :P And aren't you the one who said not to worry about the color of your stars?

I think people care about the stars way to much. Once you're high enough to post as much as you want each day, the ratings are more of hint at whether you are being intelligent and polite.

...and sometimes us developers and our specialized knowledge have problems being polite. :)

Please contiune to vote AND post.

To top that off, us developers tend to post things nobody cares about. Basically... we are a niche group that doesn't get heard enough.

I should be ashamed of myself.
