Want to find new music that's similar to bands and genres you already love? Try pandora.com. I haven't been on it long, but it looks promising.

Hey, finally pandora has been recognized ;-0
Ive been messing with it for about 5 months and lets just say, Ive bought more cds in the last months then ever before.
Great site overall for sampling music of compared tastes, styles, and genres. My favorite 'stations' are Champagne Supernova (Oasis) & Nirvana. It's introduced me to fantastic bands (which I ended up buying cds for) such as Luke Temple & Mad Science Fair -(Check em' out)
It is pretty promising- giving the listner some control of the music played with 'i like it' and 'dislike it'- which after 2 votes on any band in a station- will delete them from ones playlist.
Ive been meaning to write a enlongated and detailed dissertation on Pandora for awhile, but it has just slipped my mind. Anyways, just a few sentences might be better in the long shot.
Now are ye undeceived! Welcome, again, my children, to the communion of your race!
I prefer last.fm. My favourite media player has support for that, and that moved over from the other service, I forget it's title... anyway... I have a last.fm profile that automagically gets recorded to.
I should be ashamed of myself.

There's a good test about this in the current issue of ct (04/06, p. 192-195). A short overview of the tested systems/software:
Audioscrobbler - collaborative filtering, data gets exported via XML, support for all major OSes and (software) audio/media players - used within Amarok + LastFM
AudioInsight - Collaborative + Content Based Filtering, experts try to develop typical music profiles for peer groups, application additionally tries to create a profile out of the user data - used within Napster relaunch
Music Genome Project - base of pandora.com - 40 profesionall musicians categorize the data
MoodLogic - tracks get rated by community
MusicLens - interesting flash-based project - data is used within FineTunes.de
MusicMiner - Java-based Open Source-project - creates a map (yeah, like a real one: with hills, mountains, desserts, vast space, etc.) of your music collection
Predixis - tries to automatically create playlists - used within MusicMagic Mixer
Sony HighFind - developed for the mobile phone section of Sony; works similar as Pandora - used within Streamman.net + Radio DJ (= cell phone application)
